Saunders – Round 9: ‘The Mystery of Chuck, Pt. 1′

Janine feels horrible

Janine felt awful. She had been the one who brought the train set home. She had helped Chuck set it up and even helped him with the placement of the trees. It had been their little ‘bonding’ exercise when he was a kid. Now he was gone and it was the train set that took the blame. There was no explanation as to why it suddenly ignited, yet remained untouched by flames.

“It isn’t your fault,” Henry said, trying to comfort his wife. “It was a freak accident.”

“But I’m the one who brought that thing in here,” Janine replied. Truth be told, it wasn’t just the train set she was talking about. Ever since Katy, bad things seemed to happen. Maybe it was karma catching up with her. “How can I not feel responsible?”

Henry sighed, “You didn’t light it on fire, Janine. It wasn’t your fault–how could you possibly have known something like that would happen?”

Damien studies

After the loss of his brother, Damien abandoned his passion for games and instead invested it into books and school. He read up on everything he possibly could, hoping and praying he could find some answer to what happened. There had to be something out there, surely. He’d find it or he’d die trying.

Janine is frightened by Katy's ghost

The death of Chuck had brought about other changes, too. Janine nearly had a heart attack one night after she came home from work. She could have sworn she saw a phantom in the image of Katy jump out at her. She screamed and closed her eyes. When she opened them again, there was nothing there.

Was it the guilt that caused these visions? Surely they weren’t real. Ghosts didn’t exist!

Damien sees Katy's ghost

Damien was a victim of the phantom, as well. She jumped out at him one morning while everyone else was still asleep. He’d been so frightened that afterwards, he nearly passed out. When he finally came to his senses, he was determined to see if it would happen again. He had no idea that Janine had experienced the same phenomenon.

Was his mother angry that Chuck had died? Was that why she was suddenly haunting them? Maybe she wanted Damien to find out why.

Gordon is a teen

Amidst all the chaos, Gordon became a teen. For his birthday, Janine bought him a puppy he dubbed ‘Lord Snow’. He had wanted one for a long while, but Chuck’s death had made things complicated. Finally, they gave in and Gordon was quite pleased. He was fond of animals and once Lord Snow was big enough, he’d have a jogging partner.

Gordon enjoyed knowledge, but on a different level than Damien. Gordon was a bit more friendly and attentive than your average knowledge-seeker. He had a strange and uncommon charisma that drew people to him.

Gordon confronts Janine

He was also quite keen when it came to figuring people out. He cornered Janine one afternoon, when he was sure everyone else was out of the house.

“I know what you do, mom.”

Janine was taken back, “what are you talking about, Gordon?”

“You’re the one the police have the task force after. You’re the leader of the crime syndicate that’s rising to fame.” Gordon replied. If he was angry or hurt, it didn’t show. “Everything you said to me when I was younger suddenly makes sense now.”

“Gordon,” Janine said sadly, “I’m sorry, but–”

“I’m not angry,” Gordon said, his face impassive. “I even know about Katy, I heard you on the phone with Derek. I was awake that night, too.”

It broke Janine’s heart to hear him say that. Her sweet, sensitive little boy. What had she done? Before she could apologize, he silenced her.

“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna tell on you. But you can’t hide forever, mom.” He said, taking her hand and giving it a squeeze. “Eventually, you’re going to have to pass down the torch… and I’ll be waiting when you’re ready.”

He left before she could say a word in protest. This wasn’t what she had wanted, not at all.

Note from Mao: Okay, first, no I didn’t purposely kill Chuck. In fact, I still have NO idea what the hell even happened there. One minute, I’m downstairs and then I hear screaming. I move to the upstairs, Lilith is wailing while Chuck and the train set are engulfed in flames. By the time the fire department gets there, Death is taking Chuck and the train set has magically stopped burning. My mind was truly blown. As for Gordon wanting to take Janine’s place… guess what his LTW was–Criminal Mastermind. How fitting.

  1. Wow! Gordon you legend! And about Chuck… :S If love triangles weren’t enough, death and crime syndicates have come to take over! Man Jun is small fry now.

Mao edit: I know, it’s like gone from normal suburban drama to the scary stuff!

  2. Poor Chuck/Janine/Lilith/Damien! Poor Saunders! I can’t even imagine losing my twin! Its be too sad. And i cant believe Gordan! the sweet innocent little boy, wants to be a criminal! Agh!
Katys finally showing, eh? How long will it be before Chuck comes to haunt?
And i dont want to be mean, but that fire was probably Population Control for the Saunders.

Mao edit: Baha, you know, after the initial shock wore off… I thought the same thing; “one less sim to worry about!” I’m awful.

  3. At least you know now who the heir will be.
Still, that’s sad about Chuck. I haven’t used the train set much yet but now I’m a little scared to.

Mao edit: That’s true. And yeah, that train set hasn’t been touched since!

  4. wow i did not see that coming!
its a shame that it happened right after he got with lilith :(
but my mao, Gordon is cutie :)
i <3 yer blogs, i check twice a day for updates.

Mao edit: Aw, thank you! I’m glad you enjoy them. :) Gordon turned out very well. But he’s always been one of my potential favorites, haha.

  5. woww, this was a really great postt my train set cought on fire and my sim elder died in the fire not tooo long ago, its nice to know that someone else has had a similar experience with the game, and believe me, thats rewarding, i wouldnt let anyone go nearr the train set, but now i prob will.. happy easter

Mao edit: I’m glad it wasn’t something weird with my game, then. It was crazy! I didn’t even know that could happen. Crazy, flammable train set…

  6. Huh. Tragic. But I like Damien better anyway. Oh, and does this mean Tsung gets to marry Lilith?

Mao edit: It all depends on their wants/etc.

  7. Ahhh poor Chuck, it almost seems like a conspiracy here though, first Katy and then one of her sons. It’s like something is trying to remove all traces of her from the game. Also that’s kinda freaky that Gordon wants Janine to ‘pass down the torch’. Her being his mum can’t exactly not help his career either.

Mao edit: It really does, but I swear Janine had nothing to do with it! She wouldn’t ever hurt the boys. I think it’s just a curse. ;)

    Comment by Sanna — March 23, 2008 @ 2:33 pm

  8. Why does everything bad happen to the Saunders? xD They’re my favorite family! Even if they like…have super sperm and are constantly procreating in vast numbers…

Mao edit: I have NO idea! They have some really awful luck, it seems… maybe it’s because there’s so many of them.

    Comment by Elecy — March 23, 2008 @ 4:13 pm

  9. OMG this update was fantastic! There is always drama going on in the Saunders household that’s for sure haha. {^_^}

Mao edit: Haha, thanks! Yeah, the Saunders house rarely disappoints…

  10. Not to benefit from Chuck’s tragedy, but I’ll have to keep an eye on my train sets from now on. lol Can Lilith recover from seeing such a horrifying sight or is she scarred for life? and speaking of scarred, sweet, innocent Gordon is looking to inherit his mother’s criminal empire?! That apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

Mao edit: Right now, Lilith is pretty messed up right now. As for Gordon… he’s difficult. I’m not quite sure what to think about him right now. He’s sneakier than you’d think.

    Comment by Ann — March 24, 2008 @ 11:58 am

  11. Great update! Wow on Chuck… I won’t play with the train set now. I love Gordon’s LTW, he has the same name as that burglar and his mother is the Criminal Mastermind. It’s just perfect.

Mao edit: Whoa!! I completely forgot about the burglar named Gordon. That’s awesome!

    Comment by Kyri — March 24, 2008 @ 12:38 pm

  12. Okay, I think you have more sims die in your game than I’ve ever had die in mine! I’ve never had anyone die from fire or starvation or electrocution…although I did just have a sim get struck by lightning…the first time ever. But she didn’t die. Doh. Anyhoo, why’d it have to be Chuck?! He was my favorite of the boys!

Mao edit: I know. I’ve had a ton of satellite deaths… but I rarely have sims die without me prompting it. So this has been interesting.

    Comment by Mandie — March 24, 2008 @ 5:53 pm

  13. =O
I feel bad for wanting Lilith to be with Tsung. I can’t believe he died! Does this mean Lilith will be even more emo? (kidding, :P )
Oh well though, the Saunders’ are out of control! Gordon is cool, I JUST noticed he had the Anderson skintone! This means that Damien is heir-by-default.Poor Chuck.

Mao edit: Gordon was never in line to take over the Saunders house. He’ll get to move out and found his own house. ;) Lilith will just become strange…

    Comment by Josh — March 24, 2008 @ 10:49 pm

  14. Aaargh, such a tragedy! Poor Lilith, it must be horrible to see your first love die in front of your very eyes.
Too funny that criminal mastermind LTW runs in the family, you’ve got a real “family” going on here ;-)

Mao edit: Hahaha, I know. I totally didn’t not anticipate Gordon having that LTW!

    Comment by brittybe — March 29, 2008 @ 5:10 pm

  15. Wow… so much is going on in your game. I think that I am jealous. Not that I like to see my sims die or anything. But I am sure that it makes it easier to play.

All this happens in only 4 days

Mao edit: Yep, hard to believe, isn’t it? Now you know why I dislike playing an entire week!

    Comment by Monique — March 29, 2008 @ 7:56 pm

  16. I was going to wait until I was caught up to comment . . .

But O_O. Holy s*** I totally did NOT see that coming. Poor Lilith.

Hey, Lisa! I was pretty surprised, too. I had no idea that could happen!

    Comment by Lisa — August 1, 2008 @ 2:53 pm

  17. I thought it was an ROS, but it just randomly happened? poor chuck!
