Yu 2 – Round 26: ‘Private Eyes’

Marcus Yu and Valerie Alioto never really expected to be parents, but they’re easy relationship has survived so far and Megan has both her parents under one roof.  Will Valerie’s criminal activities put a strain on her family life?

Megan was growing like a weed.  Marcus had been considerably shocked when he found out Valerie was pregnant, he’d never really thought of himself as much of a ‘dad figure’.  Fortunately, he’d adjusted to the role well and was teaching Megan the basics of walking.  She looked a lot like him, but Valerie’s personality and facial expressions were evident, especially when she threw tantrums.

Valerie, of course, did not see the resemblance at all in those cases.

Valerie was busy trying to dig up as much dirt on her new employer, Gordon Saunders, as she possibly good.  It had been her task, something to test her mettle.  Gordon had told her that if she passed the test, she could consider herself one of his eyes and ears about the neighborhood.  She was a good neutral source for information.  She’d be expected to report on her friends and make friends with people he considered worthy of keeping an eye on.

Luckily for Valerie, this sort of thing suited her perfectly.  She was secretive, sneaky, and quite good when it came to being charming and manipulative.  She was a little surprised by what she found on Gordon, though.  She had gone back quite a ways, back to Janine Anderson-Saunders… where it all began.

She met up with Gordon at the downtown cemetery late at night to report on her findings.  It was a bit creepy, meeting up in a cemetary, but Valerie would have to get used to it.  They needed to be discrete.

“You’ve been married twice, first to Tracey Yu and the Lauren Davis, or should I say, Katy Saunders?  You have two biological children, Michael Saunders and Claude Saunders.  Claude has an illegitimate set of twins with his former lover, Kit Knight.  You accepted your mother’s criminal mantle and then tricked Thomas Anderson into aiding you, only to cross him, which led to his… untimely death that was reported as simply old age taking its toll.  You made a deal with Roman Anderson and ‘removed’ Lacie Anderson, having a contact in another city take her in, give her a new name, and then claimed she was missing and presumed dead here.”  She paused, taking a breath.  “Do I need to continue?”

“You found this all out using a computer?  I need to be more careful…”

She laughed, “no, not the computer.  I have my ways.  See?  I’m good at this.  But really, if you talk to the right people… you can find anything out, about anyone.  Even the most discrete of criminals always leave some sort of opening.”

“Hm, is that so?  I guess I should find those openings and close them,” he responded, watching her reaction pointedly.

“I don’t think you can ‘take care’ of yourself, Gordon.  That’d be counter intuitive to your overall plans.”

He was amused, “I suppose I had you pegged wrongly, then.  You’re more than capable of handling this.”

“Quite,” Valerie replied confidently.  “So, what am I doing?”

“My son, in his infinite idiocy, has twins… as you know already.  What you may not know is he is completely clueless about it.  Perhaps it is for the best, but I am a not one to let my family wander around in ignorance.  I want my grandchildren monitored.  I want to make sure their loose mother is caring for them.  When the time comes, I will approach them, but until then… I need people like you to be my eyes and ears.”

“Watching some kids, keeping tabs, should be easy enough.”

“You can’t let anyone know what you’re doing.  Your cover cannot be compromised.”

“It won’t.”

“If anyone, for even a brief second, thinks you are associated with me?  It’s over,” Gordon said, turning and walking away.

Valerie took a breath, trying to calm her nerves.  She was plenty confident in her abilities, but Gordon unnerved her in numerous ways.  If she messed up, it was over all right, in more ways than one.  She could read between the lines.  She’d heard about the other things, the things people didn’t really talk about.  Gordon wasn’t a bad guy, but crossing him was not usually a smart thing to do.

Valerie had no intention of crossing him.  She was more worried about her strange attraction to him.

Marcus was pretty laid-back about her late-night meetings and usual busy schedule.  He didn’t ask questions, he simply shrugged it off and jotted it down to Valerie being Valerie.  She’d never been an open book.  She spent as much time as she could with Megan, so he wasn’t about to raise any alarms.

“Are you ever going to tell me what you do?” he asked as she joined him in the hot tub.

“I already have,” Valerie replied, sinking down into the hot water.  “I’m am entrepreneur.”

He laughed, “that’s right… I had nearly forgotten.”

“See?  I knew I told you.”

Megan became a child and while she still looked primarily like her father, her mother’s traits were sneaking in there as she got older.  She was a lovely young lady who was polite, though a little sneaky.  If she was told to clean up her room, she’d simply shove it all under her bed and consider it done.  Of course, Marcus and Valerie were ignorant to this fact until they checked under there and found all the items she claimed had gone “missing”.

Despite Megan’s faults, she was a good kid.  Valerie wanted to give her a medal for making her job easier and bringing home Nadia Knight from school.  She happily introduced her new friend to her mother over dinner.

“I’m so glad you’re making friends, sweetie,” Valerie said, her eyes moving to the young Saunders child.  “Nice to meet you, Nadia.”

Valerie wasn’t sure how anyone could be ignorant of Nadia’s parentage.  She looked so much like Claude is was a little alarming.

Note from Mao: Oh geeze, Valerie’s wants for Gordon have spread to Gordon.  Bad vampire, no messing around with your minions!  Sheesh.  He’s going to try and populate the entire hood.  I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do about them yet.  Valerie is pretty casual about it, but Gordon, well, he does nothing casually.  I’m hoping ACR keeps from deciding for me, lol.  So far, everything has been purely platonic.

Marcus, as usual, is blithely unaware.  It’s better that way, really.

  1. I love Valerie. She’s so sneaky and confident about her abilities, I love that she surprised Gordon with digging up the dirt on him and that things are going easy for her and work. Hopefully Gordon and Valerie will stay seperated for a while, but it does seem like Gordon may have encountered a sim that is as intelligent and cunning as he is.

  2. Valerie has definitely got it together when it comes to this!

  3. Oh, wow, Valerie is happily digging herself in deep, isn’t she? I hope she doesn’t mess up, professionally or romantically!

Hmmm, Maybe Megan will take after her mother a little after all? How funny that she brought Nadia home :)

  4. You know Valerie is growing on me. At first I didn’t like her too much, but now. I’m liking her. And the idea of her and Gordon I like even more. I guess since he’s a vamp I figure he would have to “try” all the females in his life out at least once. LOL

I hope she can keep her end of the deal up and not fall short. I would hate to see her die.

  5. Oh, jeez, Valerie. The last thing you need to be doing is having an affair with Gordon. That’s just begging for trouble.

    Comment by Lisa — July 27, 2009 @ 8:52 am

  6. Yes! She had better tread carefully, but I don’t think she’ll initiate anything quite yet… Megan is adorable!

    Comment by Mao — July 27, 2009 @ 10:31 am

  7. Me, too! She was just sort of a throwaway NPC that wouldn’t go away, now she’s integrating herself into the story, LOL. Gordon is as bad as Henry… any female he touches gets knocked up, so I’m not anticipating them hooking up anytime soon. We’ll see what ACR and wants have to say about that!

    Comment by Mao — July 27, 2009 @ 10:34 am

  8. Very true. She needs to keep her eyes on the prize and remember he’s gone through TWO wives already…

  9. Well Valerie, I’m quite impressed — she must be reading your blog Mao! Like others have said, I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about Val but now I really like her. As much of a stud as Gordon is, I hope she doesn’t cheat on Marcus, he’s a perfect match for her (and the complete opposite of his sister)… laid back and nonchalant. Gordon: “You found this all out using a computer? I need to be more careful…” I LOLed at work. Megan is cute but is going to be a handful I think.

  10. I don’t we’ll have to worry. Gordon is still pretty sad about Lauren and he’s not really up for intentionally ruining anyone’s relationship. There may be some tension, though. ;)

    Comment by Mao — July 27, 2009 @ 12:46 pm

  11. Valerie said Claude’s name wrong. She freakin forgot the freakin! It’s his middle name! You can’t forget that. I’m sure Val’s msart enough to hack into computer databases.

Can’t blame her for falling for Gordon. He’s hot. If I were pixelated I would totally go for Gordon.

Megan growing up to be a cutie.

And for a little flashback moment, Claude Saunders reminds me a lot of Claude Black. Yeah no matter how many sims 2 stories you do, the Black Widow will always be my favorite. I’ve reread it so many times, even my simphobic boyfriend knows the story.

  12. I knew Gordon could easily find Valerie a job, and a relatively easy one at that, especially since Megan practically dropped her job in her lap. She intrigues me, as she seems to intrigue many others! I have to wonder what kind of contacts she has, especially to find out what happened to Lacie. It’s funny how the most random seeming townies end up ingratiated into your neighborhood. Yeah, Nadia has the patented Sauders look, but you can see a lot of it in Megan too, especially now.
And Gordon. I instantly got suspicious when I saw Valerie leaning a little too close, but at least nobody’s done anything stupid yet. However, ACR has a long, twisted history with Boreal Springs. It’s best to expect the worst, lol.

  13. LOL! I think only James adhered to the Claude freakin’ Saunders thing. ;) Oh and me, of course. Haha, awww, my black widow family. You probably notice a few names I’ve reused in my stories/blogs! I miss them. They were wonderful. :D As for Claude Black and Claude Saunders, Claude Black actually liked commitment… ;)

    Comment by Mao — July 27, 2009 @ 8:14 pm

  14. LOL! This is true, ACR has become rather infamous here, hasn’t it? I’m crossing my fingers and hoping, though. Gordon really needs to not interject his direct DNA in another generation. He can at least wait awhile, sheesh! Megan is going to be adorable, I can’t wait!

    Comment by Mao — July 27, 2009 @ 8:15 pm

  15. Actually, James’ mom said it too, or thought it, when she figured out who Kit’s babies were. I remember that very well, haha. Mao, where do you get your elder’s clothes? I REALLY need help there, I’ve already been to all-about-style, and my pc doesn’t like dustfinger for some reason.

    Comment by Keladry — July 28, 2009 @ 7:21 am

  16. You’re right, Katarina said it, LOL! Okay, but I don’t think folks run around calling him that. ;) She got it from James. As for elder clothes, um… actually, I have no idea. I’ve had the same CC for several years now, I just keep building onto it. I don’t have many clothes that are for elder males that everyone else doesn’t have, though. I usually follow links on other sites. Sullivan has some good resource links listed here, though. I know I’ve used that.

  17. Megan is too cute. How nice of her to make her mom’s new job easy! ;) I hope Valerie doesn’t let her crush on Gordon mess up her marriage. I love that she surprised Gordon with all the information she was able to find, LOL.

    Comment by Shana — July 28, 2009 @ 12:38 pm

  18. Marcus and Valerie actually aren’t married. Megan’s last name is Alioto, not Yu. ;) I’m sad that there will be less Yus, but I really want a new last name in the mix. Also, Marcus and Valerie are Fortune/Pleasure, so I don’t see them spinning up any marriage wants soon!

    Comment by Mao — July 28, 2009 @ 12:41 pm

  19. Valerie’s fast becoming my favourite ever former-NPC/townie in Boreal Springs. She really is a perfect match for Gordon! I mean that in a work-partnership way, although… hmm. She seems really different from Lauren though, a bit too casual and go-getting for Gordon to deal with. Megan is such a cutie!

    Comment by Zoë — July 28, 2009 @ 8:59 pm

  20. Yes, Valerie is a little too casual for Gordon. He tends to be very serious! At least, about relationships/family. Megan is adorable. :D

    Comment by Mao — July 28, 2009 @ 10:03 pm

  21. Oy, this is going to get interesting. I’m especially curious to see what happens with Gordon and Valerie in terms of romance in the workplace. Dangerous business!! But it makes for a great story. :)

    Comment by Shannon — July 29, 2009 @ 12:51 pm

  22. Haha, yes. We’ll see how it goes, though Gordon does tend to keep pretty good control of himself.

    Comment by Mao — July 29, 2009 @ 4:14 pm

  23. Megan is such a cutie. It probably helps that her parents facial structures are so similar.

I hope Valerie is careful with Gordon. I think do think she can handle him as well as she thinks.

    Comment by Monique — July 30, 2009 @ 12:00 pm

  24. Actually, Marcus has a lot of Ryu’s face type, whereas Valerie is face one, I think. So they’re not very similar… but so far, Megan’s turning out to look like her father. :)

    Comment by Mao — July 30, 2009 @ 1:02 pm

  25. It was quite shocking to read all of Gordon’s history condensed into one paragraph, even though I was aware of all of it, obviously. He’s quite the super-villain!

    Comment by Carla — August 5, 2009 @ 6:02 pm

  26. LOL! But he’s a cuddly sort… well, unless you cross him, that is.
