O`Hanlon 2 – Round 26: ‘Out of Touch’

Deidre tried to keep her mind off her crazy parents and instead tried to focus on her friends.  She was extremely popular, befriending every child in the neighborhood.  Of course, her favorite person was still Dominic Knight.  He pushed her on the swings and yelled at his mean twin for picking on her.

Dominic also tried to tell her that not having two parents wasn’t so bad.  He only had his mom, he didn’t know anything about dads until he met Deidre’s.

Sade came along with her toddlers and Grace.  Grace, a lone child, preferred to go find somewhere quiet to read as opposed to playing along with the others.  The twin toddlers, Charity and Alexander, rode the little llama toys while their mother tried to make this mess slightly neater.

“So, I hear you decked my brother,” Sade said as a way of greeting, sidling next to Viola.

Viola wasn’t sure how to respond.  Patrick and Sade had always been close.  Was Sade going to hit her?  “I-I, uh, yes… I did.  I feel bad about it, but I was really angry.”

“Ha!  Serves him right, always going on about his pretty face.  We all know who the gorgeous one is, of course,” she laughed, smiling.  “Michael told me to talk to you.  He’s grumbling about being pulled into other people’s problems.  So, here I am, your problem solver.  Talk, so I can get my husband to make out with me instead of grumbling about you two and your silly marital issues.”

“It was worse, in the city.  I mean, Patrick was around, but I knew he was up to his tricks.  I mean, our marriage was kind of started on that knowledge.  I knew what he was, and I got pregnant.  I could’ve gone it alone, but I didn’t want to.  I didn’t have that kind of money.  Patrick had plenty, so we got married.”  Viola watched Deidre play with Kit’s twins, shaking her head.  “It was a mess, of course.  We’re two completely different people with two completely different ideals.  I had always wanted to settle down and have kids and well, you know Patrick.”

“Unfortunately, yes.  But he’s gotten better.  In fact, you might not believe it, but he hasn’t been messing around since you all moved here.  So that’s probably why he was a little shocked when you just randomly slugged him… in front of Francis, too,” Sade clucked her tongue.  “I get why you’re upset, but you know, you can’t change people.  They are what they are.  Patrick is always going to be Patrick, but the fact that he’s attempting to change?  That means volumes.  We all know the size of Patrick’s ego rivals that of the planet’s mass.  So, you know, give him a break.  He’s trying.”

Viola stood up, trying to sort out all the thoughts in her head.  Sade gave her one last bit of advice before running off to pull Alexander off Charity’s llama, which was rocking dangerously fast.

“Think about it, do you really want to be some old divorcee?  You don’t have many good years left.”

Viola sighed, closing her eyes.  Sade, in her own way, had a point.  She was getting older, she was past her prime.  In fact, she was more than middle-aged and she had two kids.  Besides, she loved Patrick, that’s why his infidelity hurt so much.

“I don’t want a divorce,” Viola told Patrick later when she and Deidre returned home.  “I can’t imagine seeing other people, but I’m still not ready to be okay yet.  So, this is just a trial thing, to see how I feel.”

“Wow, those are some really hot words, Vi.  You’re kind of killing what little mood there is.”

“I just wanted to be clear, that I’m still mad, but–”

Patrick moved closer, “I am an expert at no-strings-attached.  Just be quiet.”

Amidst his parents dysfunction, Francis found himself seeking solace in one of his good friends, Rosa Anderson.  He’d never really seen her as more than a friend until recently.  She was a bit older and it was definitely starting to show.  It also helped that they had similar interests and an easy time getting along.

It wasn’t an awkward transition.  One day, it just kind of happened.  They kissed and it was sort of a not-girlfriend/boyfriend thing, but mostly a kissing friends sort of thing.

Rosa was older, but not going to college.  She had already graduated, so she could hang out late.  Francis was just able to sneak under the radar, thanks to his parental units having marital issues.  He was in his senior year now and he would be heading off to University.

During their casual, kissing friends romance, he failed to notice that maybe Rosa was beginning to take it a bit more seriously.  To be honest, Francis was going to miss her when he left.  Sure, there’d be plenty of hot co-eds for him to hit on, but Rosa wasn’t just a girl.  She acted like a boy and she had sass.

“Four years is a long time,” Rosa said, trying to hide her sadness.  “You’ll be too busy to remember me, even if I have been your friend forever.”

“Yeah, but think of all the stuff you’ll be doing, too.  You’ll probably be married before I graduate.”

She laughed, but it was a weak laugh, “I don’t think so.  Will you visit?”

“Sure.  I’ll have to come back and see how my crazy parents are doing.  Make sure mom hasn’t buried dad in the backyard and all that.”

“Okay, well,” this was awkward.  They were just friends, right?  Kissing friends, sure, but no attachment beyond.  So Rosa wasn’t allowed to say anything about co-eds or anything.  “Um, I’ll see you around?”

“Yeah, see you, Rosa.”

Note from Mao: Holy crap.  WAY TOO MUCH happened in this round and I have NO idea why.  First off, Viola went insane.  No, seriously, she LOST IT–she was whacked out of her dang mind.  She burnt the food, was angry at Patrick for no reason.  He tried to flirt with her, she went into meltdown mode.  She rejected it, fell out of love only to fall back in love and then went into aspiration failure.  No sooner did the shrink leave, she popped up and well, popped Patrick!  I was shocked!  I just sort of sat there, mouth agape, muttering, “W.T.F.?!”

And all the while, amidst the fighting, Patrick had this roll up.  Awwwwww!

FYI, he hasn’t cheated since they moved.  So I have no idea why Viola went nuts.

You may notice some changes going on around Boreal Springs and Aperture.  I’ve begun beautifying the place, making it a bit more cohesive and whatnot.  I’ve made some new lots for BS and will be rennovating a ton of the lots in Aperture as time permits.  I do a LOT of stuff and recently have somehow gained a life (OMG, wut?) so yeah, slow, work in progress.  I made a playground with the Apartment Life stuff for BS.

OMG, how cute are the animations?!?!  I LOVE IT.  Prepare for tons of spam, because I also realized, BS is currently OVERRUN with children.  Tommy, Gavin, Dominic, Nadia, Megan, Grace, Deidre, Emily… Charity and Alexander will also be kids this round.  Did I miss any?  Probably.  Geeze.

And for those of you who are curious, I didn’t send Francis to Uni early, since his aging was weird, he was set to go this round anyway.  I was surprised, too.  Also, for those who were following the Fujin and Rosa thing… you can imagine my SHOCK when Rosa rolled up a “Fall in love with Francis” want.  I locked it so it didn’t spin away when they went on their date.  They’ve been friends since they were children.  Francis is also friends with Fujin.

Normally, I would have left well-enough alone, but Francis kept wanting to sneak out and see Rosa, so I sent them on a date… and Rosa fell in love… like, INSTANTLY.  What the heck?  I have JM Pescado’s difficult love hack, so there’s NO instant love.  In fact, some sims are downright stalwart in their quest to NOT fall in love (Lydia Anderson)… but Rosa?  A few flirts and kisses was all it took!  Geeze!

I was even more freaked out when Francis followed suit.  My sims are intent on giving me artery damage or something.  All this gasping and shock can’t be good for my health.

One last thing, I am enjoying the fact that I have my 80s station to listen to while I play again.  Yay.  :D   Nothing goes together better than sims 2 and 80s music, LOL!  This has been a long-standing Mao tradition since time imemorial.

  1. Aww, Rosa, she’s such a cutie in my opinion! And wow, Viola was well.. violent (bad pun) this round, I wonder if it’s the menopause she’s hitting even though those don’t really exist in sims! Sade’s so blunt with her “i can’t make out with my husband beause you two are having marital issues” she hasn’t changed at all has she?

    Comment by Mohohon — August 5, 2009 @ 2:22 pm

  2. Whoa. This house apparently wanted to fill the drama quota for the round all by themselves. ;) I like the new park! LOL @ Sade’s comment about being an old divorcee. She always tells it like it is, doesn’t she? ;)

    Comment by Shana — August 5, 2009 @ 3:07 pm

  3. My sims actually make me want to listen to Avril Lavigne, lol. Or japanese pop. I loved this update, and are Rosa and Francis getting married?

    Comment by Keladry — August 5, 2009 @ 3:19 pm

  4. Rosa is adorable. She looks so much like Kenya, but I love her red hair. ;) Sade will always and forever be Sade, motherhood or not, LOL!

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 3:26 pm

  5. Yeah, so it would seem! Geeze. Sade is pretty blunt, but she gets the job done!

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 3:28 pm

  6. Francis still has to go through University and Rosa is now an adult, so who knows. We have two rounds before Francis graduates. ;)

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 3:29 pm

  7. It all sounds so fun Mao. Your Sims live a live of adventure and lunacy. I love it! I wonder if Viola really wants to stick out out

    Comment by Wildchild453 — August 5, 2009 @ 3:45 pm

  8. I get so confuse with these romances. Ow head hurting! Francis is so cute even if he’s a player. Viola has to be MILF of the year or something. She’s hot!

Never had a sim go crazy. Viola kinda of scared me when she was crazy. Must of been worse for you since you’re playing her. Psycho MILF! I should patent that

    Comment by Victoria — August 5, 2009 @ 5:16 pm

  9. Haha, my sims are crazy! Viola is a family sim, I somehow doubt she wants a divorce. ;)

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 5:45 pm

  10. I think Sade would take offense to Viola trumping her title, haha. Viola is just a standard face one townie. ;) There’s a lot of strange romance going on lately–it confuses me, too.

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 5:46 pm

  11. Don’t get your hopes up, Rose. Find a stud muffin of your very own in uni. Sounds like Viola really went off the deep end there. I’ve had a breakdown or two-but never out of the blue. Love the renovations in BS.

    Comment by starrsim — August 5, 2009 @ 5:50 pm

  12. Rosa isn’t going to Uni. She’ll be an Adult the next time we see her. Viola lost her MIND! Both Patrick and myself were equally baffled.

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 6:03 pm

  13. Uh-oh, Rosa! I hope she fares better with Francis than Viola’s done so far with Patrick, I’ve never seen a nervous breakdown come out of nowhere like that before! The No-Instant-Love hack is so confusing sometimes, I can never work out precisely how it figures these things. My Romance and Family sims seem to fall in love really easily, but the Knowledge ones… not so much.

    Comment by Zoë — August 5, 2009 @ 6:07 pm

  14. Yeah, it’s another volatile combination… Family and Romance, yikes! Francis isn’t that bad yet, but we’ll see how he fares in Uni. I am pretty sure it just tweaks the code a bit to not make ONE flirt = instant crush/love. It’s probably based on Aspiration. I’ve had family sims refuse to fall in love, though.

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 6:10 pm

  15. Yay! I’m finally caught up!

This post feels like I read about 5 in 1 though! It certainly had its share of drama. The Viola thing must have been a shock but she must have had a lot of anger and resentment built up about Patrick’s cheating, even if it all happened years ago.

And Francis…wow, he might end up finding himself in a situation similar to his dad’s, if he keeps going the way he’s going!

    Comment by Carla — August 5, 2009 @ 6:38 pm

  16. I was sincerely hoping that there was an explanation for Viola’s freakout. Apparently not. At least she’s getting over it. Weird.
I had no idea that Rosa and Francis were even friends. I knew about Fujin, but not Francis. I certainly hope they don’t end up being another Patrick and Viola; though they’re still together, the bumps in the road have been enormous. I’m hoping for something more like Michale and Sade, minus the three kids.
Speaking of Sade, wow, any tact I thought she’d gained since her last time in the rotation went out the window. But then, Viola is her sister-in-law.

    Comment by Fini — August 5, 2009 @ 6:44 pm

  17. Haha, hooray! :D You have a lot of endurance. Yeah, it was easy to explain, but from a gameplay standpoint, I’m still pretty baffled.

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 6:49 pm

  18. I still have absolutely no idea what caused it. She just went bonkers. I’ve never had that happen before. There must have been a glitch in the system. As for Sade, her and tact have never been great friends. She gives her best advice when she’s brutal, though. Sometimes, the truth hurts!

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 6:50 pm

  19. Oh wow! This just reminded me of my Dakota, who just flipped out for not much reason (okay, well maybe I let her grow up badly, lol!), but I wonder what happened to Viola? Must be delayed reaction. It makes for an interesting story, at least :)

I am proud of Patrick for keeping it in his pants lately though, lol!

And lol, you seem to like the romance/family pairings! Are you trying to torture them? ;) But I think Rosa is gorgeous, and Francis is a cutie too! They’d make adorable babies, some day when they’re all graduated and such :)

You know, no instant loves does nothing for me that I can tell. My sims fall in love ALL over the place!

    Comment by laura — August 5, 2009 @ 9:02 pm

  20. Delayed reaction, definitely. Patrick has been good, too. So it was surprising! And no, it isn’t me, it’s them. They’re the ones who torture themselves, LOL! That’s weird about your game, maybe your sims are just hopeless romantics?

    Comment by Mao — August 5, 2009 @ 10:40 pm

  21. Wow, that’s some midlife crisis that Viola just had. And so random too! But my drama meter is almost full now, so I’m platinum!

    Comment by Lisa — August 6, 2009 @ 8:51 am

  22. Haha, love the platinum crack. Happy to help! ;)

    Comment by Mao — August 6, 2009 @ 10:32 am

  23. So Viola finally cracked eh? I have a hard time feeling bad for her because she knew what she was getting into from the beginning… Deidre cracks me up, she’s so precocious it’s adorable. I’m interested to see how the relationship between Rosa and Francis develops — perhaps he’ll be changing aspirations in college if things go well especially after all the drama with his parents, I’m sure he doesn’t want to repeat his dad’s mistakes.

    Comment by Liz — August 11, 2009 @ 3:01 pm

  24. I actually tend not to change aspirations in college at all anymore. I can’t remember the last one I actually did change. We’ll see how he acts in college!
