B.S.U. Campus – Round 26: ‘Love Song’

Emma Davis is completing her final two years at University while Francis O`Hanlon is just starting his four year venture.

Emma smiled, greeting Francis as he walked in.  She knew him, but they were never very close.  The most she knew about him came from her friend, Rosa Anderson, who had dated him in high school.  He certainly grew up well.  He looked almost exactly like his father, only blond and with dark, foreign eyes.

“So, it’s just us.  Hope that’s okay.”

“That’s fine,” Francis said, looking around.  “This place shaped up nicely.”

“Yeah, it turned out great.”

When she had initially found out that she would be spending her last two years with Francis, Emma hadn’t thought anything of it.  Unfortunately, she had underestimated the tension that can grow when two attractive people are stuck in a house together.  She didn’t like him like that, that’s impossible.  He was like his father, a womanizer.  Emma wasn’t one of those girls.  She didn’t go for guys like that.

She liked to be the one in control.

Emma was surprised when her adoptive grandfather, Gordon, stopped by one night for a visit.  She let him in, feeling suddenly nervous.  This wasn’t a pleasure call, she could tell by the way he was standing.  He was tense.  He had come to yell at her.  She tried to let on as if she were clueless.

“Hey, I didn’t know you were coming over.”

“Hello, Emma.  I hear you’re falling behind with your scholarship.”

“My parents sent you, didn’t they?  Why can’t everyone just leave me alone, it isn’t like I’ve done anything wrong…”

“Messing with people’s lives is wrong, Emma.  You can’t just hurt someone because they’re ‘in the way’, especially when the person you’re after… doesn’t feel the same.”

Emma rolled her eyes, “Lydia has no business!  She’s not like us.”

At this, Gordon’s eyebrows quirked upward, “What is this us you speak of, Emma?”

“What?  You’re going to deny me now?  I’m not your biological granddaughter, whatever… but I might as well be!”

“I wasn’t saying that at all,” Gordon snapped back, angered.  “I’m simply wondering where you get off considering yourself of higher worth than anyone else.  You’re not a special snowflake, Emma.  You’re with the rest of us.”

Her brows furrowed, “I am not on the same level as Lydia Anderson!  She’s trash!  She comes from some kind of weird… experiment.  I mean, her great grandparents were lesbians!

What happened next shocked Emma to her core.  Gordon’s hand shot out and struck her, right on the cheek.  She recoiled, the pain stinging.  She tried not to cry, but it was fruitless.  Tears formed in her eyes and fell down her cheeks unchecked.

“You are out of control!”  Gordon roared, drawing his hand back.  He didn’t usually resort to violence, but Emma was beyond talking.  “You’re in for a very hard lesson in life.  If you keep this up, you’ll find yourself in more trouble than you are now.  Remember who you’re talking to, Emma Davis.  I am not your parents and I will not tolerate your belligerent attitude!”

“I–”

“Be silent!  I suppose this is my fault, you were spoiled… and look what it’s done to you.  You were such a sweet girl, but money has turned you sour.  I can fix that real quick.”

“W-what are you saying?” She sniffed.

“I am cutting you off, Emma.  I’ve given you every chance I could think of and still, you act this way.  Your money is going to be locked down and I swear, if you so much as even try to touch it, I will take it… all of it.”

“You can’t!” She wailed, hands on her hips.  The tears streaming from her eyes and the defeat written all over her face did little to help her stance.  “You can’t do that!  How will I finish college?”

“I suppose it’d be wise to keep up with your scholarship, wouldn’t it?  And don’t go to your parents, they have no control over my assets.”

“You can’t do this…”

“It’s done, Emma,” Gordon said, turning and heading out the door.  “I’ve given you enough chances.”

She fell silent, watching him walk away.  What else could she say?  There was nothing to do.  It was his, it had always been his.  Her mother and father had good jobs, true, but it was Gordon’s kindness and money that kept them comfortable.  She couldn’t run to them for help.

“And stay away from Gregory and Lydia.  If I find out you so much as look at either one, I’ll be back.”

Emma sat in her room, trying to swallow down her sorrow.  She’d brought this all on herself, but she certainly hadn’t expected this kind of reaction.  Her fingers tensed on the bed and she sucked in a big breath.  Everytime she assumed there were no more tears to cry, more came.

Suddenly, her door opened.  She didn’t bother looking, she didn’t care.  Francis stepped in, regarding her with curiosity.

“You cry really loud, you know, for a girl.”

“Leave me alone, Francis.”

“What’s wrong?”

He sat down next to her as she explained a little bit about what had happened.  He listened quietly, absorbing all the details.  He had heard some of it from Rosa, especially the bit about catching Gregory and Emma in a supposed romantic situation, which turned out to have been staged by Emma.

“So, let me get this straight, you thought this guy was perfect because you’re both rich?”

She sniffed, “well, yeah, and we’ve known one another since we were little.  Plus, our families kind of hate each other.”

“Because that makes total sense.”

“Shut up,” Emma bristled, lips pursing.  “Don’t make fun of me.”

  1. Yay, Boreal Springs is back :D I really admire you for deciding against abandoning it – if I were you, and as busy as you claim to be, I would have, a long time ago.
And so Emma finally grows up. I have to say I loved this update, it actually made me like her. Francis and her make a surprisingly cute couple and seem like good enough an idea… I just hope his Romance tendencies and family history, not to mention Rosa, don’t get in the way of the two of them being happy togather.

  2. Hey Monika! Haha, yup, I’m back. My time is a lot more limited now, but I still love my sims. This update was definitely necessary to sort of humanize Emma, I just didn’t expect it to go where it did… or to be so long, LOL!

  3. At least that slap took away the heart farts that Emma had for Gordon. She and Francis make a hot couple. Not to be mean or anything but I really don’t like the ponytail look for Francis. His old hair made him cuter. That or he got uglier when he aged up. Don’t hurt me!

Viola still is psycho? And Emma I never thought you were a homophobe! Rosa is very pretty. She can(can’t) do better than Francis.

Nice to see Emma become human!

  4. Haha, Francis actually has the same EXACT face as Patrick. It’s kind of eerie. No worries! Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

And no, it didn’t take away the heart farts. She did it while he left. ARGH! Three bolts… NO! Not happening. So gross.

As for being a homophobe, she’s not, but it is a little weird. Unfortunately, she forgot that both girls in question were related to Gordon, Shaniqua and Florence. Tsk, tsk…

  5. Mao, are you using the new ACR? There’s an option under Casual to “Add to Friend Zone”. I don’t know if that would get rid of the heart farting but it would mean you wouldn’t have to worry about Emma and Gordon being gross and wrong and flirting with each other (or worse). I had to use it on my Cordy and Galen, because he’s her great uncle, no matter what the three bolts may suggest!

Anyway…Emma and Francis, eh? There was a lot of sexual tension in this house, from the very beginning it seems, and I think something like this was bound to happen. Poor Rosa though…I can’t wait to see what happens with her and Francis now.

And wow, Gordon sure fixed Emma, didn’t he? If anyone could (literally!) slap some sense into her, it would be Gordon.

Also, I have had The Cure song “Love Song” stuck in my head since I opened this post a good hour ago. I think it’s lodged itself quite happily into my brain for the day – good thing I like it!

  6. I’m actually not using the new ACR. I don’t like the “ideal family size”, I’m more for randomization of how many babies my sims have. I don’t actively like to decide, even if they make me mad by consistently breeding, LOL! Gordon and Emma don’t try to flirt, surprisingly, but I’m waiting for it… it’s bound to happen, argh. So nasty! Gordon is NOT Woody Allen!

Emma and Francis actually get along surprisingly well. Outside of the sims… their characters just kind of latched onto one another. I have no idea. I thought it would be purely sexual and that’s it, but it’s grown into a beast that’s much worse. Which makes me sad, poor Rosa. :(

LOL, Gordon sure knows how to put the hammer down. And I’m always so happy when people recognize the song titles! Yay! It’s stuck in my head, too. It started playing when I began writing.

  7. So he likes Emma then… LOL, good luck with that one, Francis! :)

I hope she’s learned a lesson or two from all of this. I wonder if she’ll be better suited to him than Rosa was.

And poor Rosa… but maybe it’s for the best. She’s a family Sim, isn’t she? I’d hate to see them repeat the same troubles his parents did.

But how pretty did she grow up though!!! Maybe I just love redheads :)

  8. Haha, good luck, indeed! But, we’ll see. The wants will decide.

As for being better suited, Emma and Francis would get along better due to their natures and personalities, but Rosa really likes Francis. I mean, her first romantic want for him was to fall in love, lol.

But it’s true, the Family/Romance combination is dangerous. Rosa grew up beautiful, I love red heads, too!

  9. Well, I didn’t see that coming. Live, Monday Night Smackdown! Go Gordon go! At least that woke her up.

I dunno, those two just… work. I do feel bad for Rosa, but I think it’s for the best. She showed amazing restraint, stopping herself the first time things got hot and heavy between them. I clapped aloud. And every time since, I thought it would be then, but they surprised me till the very end, which surprised me since I was no longer expecting it. Ahh, sims. Gotta love ‘em.

    Comment by Fini — October 25, 2009 @ 1:23 am

  10. Yes, Gordon and the smack down I knew was coming. Plus, he’s a vamp. physical discipline is in their nature. *meow* ROFL

I’m glad Emma has finally pulled her head out of her butt and is growing up. Thank god!

    Comment by GoldenBuffy — October 25, 2009 @ 6:32 am

  11. LOL! Gordon does not mess around.

I know, they just seem to work and I have no idea why. Sure, they are three bolts, but you would think it would be your standard girl-meets-romance-sim thing… and it isn’t. Poor Rosa, though! I can guarantee you, this probably isn’t over yet…

    Comment by Mao — October 25, 2009 @ 9:43 am

  12. Gordon would be the only one who could get through to her, haha. He’s not one for hitting girls, but Emma was being a brat.

    Comment by Mao — October 25, 2009 @ 9:44 am

  13. Yay! I’m glad Gordon laid the smack down! Emma really really needed that. I can’t wait to see how she handles the change in events.

    Comment by starrsim — October 25, 2009 @ 1:48 pm

  14. LOL, Emma has been liberated from her insanity. Let’s see how she does…

    Comment by Mao — October 25, 2009 @ 2:28 pm

  15. Pssh. Emma. You can’t resist the alien charm! DON’T EVEN TRY!

But you go, Gordon! You put that spoiled princess in her place! And of course, Francis has no filter and the best thing he can say in that situation? “You cry really loud” xD

poor Rosa. There are other fish in the sea!

    Comment by Elecy — October 26, 2009 @ 1:54 pm

  16. Haha, no, no you can’t! That charm is infallible.

Gordon, of course, would be the one to put the screws to Emma. And Francis, well, he’s not exactly Mr. Sensitivity.

    Comment by Mao — October 26, 2009 @ 2:32 pm

  17. I am really anxious to see how Emma turns out. It’s kind of shocking to see what a good influence Francis is on her! Are Emma and Francis both Romance sims? Fortune and Romance?

    Comment by Shannon — October 26, 2009 @ 4:35 pm

  18. Francis being a good influence on anything is shocking, LOL! Their main aspirations are listed at the top of each entry. Surprisingly enough, Emma is Knowledge. I know, right? I forget what her secondary is… maybe Popularity?

    Comment by Mao — October 26, 2009 @ 5:44 pm

  19. That Gordon is a forceful one! Wow Emma got set straight. Francis and Emma are kinda cute but what’s going to happen with Rosa?

    Comment by HeredonCove — October 26, 2009 @ 10:41 pm

  20. Oh Emma… I just don’t know about her. I’m glad Gordon could smack some sense into her (literally!) and she totally deserves what she gets. I’m still an Emma hater though, she deserves to get her heart smashed to bits by Francis imo… also I’m anxious to see how she explains the situation to Rosa. She certainly isn’t making lifelong friends is she…

On a sidenote: Rosa turned out to be stunning as an adult, I’m glad she ditched that goofy hat :)

    Comment by Liz — October 27, 2009 @ 5:15 pm

  21. LOL, Gordon doesn’t mess around! I’m not sure what’s up with this love triangle yet. Only time will tell!

    Comment by Mao — October 27, 2009 @ 9:59 pm

  22. Me either. I’m hoping she’s changed, but it’s hard to say. She certainly isn’t starting off well with the whole Francis thing. To be honest, though, she and Francis make more sense than Rosa. Rosa is very much a family sim. :( Rosa is gorgeous! She looks like her mummy… the red hair adds.

    Comment by Mao — October 27, 2009 @ 10:00 pm

  23. Oh, duh. Color me unobservant. :p
