Knight – Round 27: ‘Separate Ways’

Travis and Marla Knight are trying to help out their eldest daughter and single mother, Kit.  Dominic and Nadia don’t know their father and they’re getting more curious about him everyday… can Kit keep them from finding out?

It was an unfortunate incident.  Travis was older than Marla and his health had been in decline lately.  It was no surprise when he dropped over while watching the twins.  Luckily, Dominic and Nadia were smart enough to call 911 and their missing elders.  Kit and Marla rushed home only to be told he was dead when they arrived.

Kit was distraught but Marla, surprisingly, showed very little remorse.  Instead, her first thought was that they were taking a vacation.

They stayed at a cabin deep in the mountains.  It was Marla’s way of giving the kids time to mourn and deal with what they’ve seen.  Kit, also, seemed to need some time.  She’d never been close to her father, but it’s never easy to lose a parent.

The mountains were a great place to go and just unwind to get away from it all.

Of course, it’s also fun to try and see who can stay on the log longest.  After the kids gave up trying to beat the adults, the adults went toe-to-toe.  Kit was surprised by her elder mother’s agility and found herself face first in a pit of water more than once.

Nadia and Dominic were disappointed when they were told they couldn’t throw axes.  Instead, they were forced to watch as their mother and grandmother showed immense skill with hitting the target.  It was pretty clear to everyone at the lumber yard that day–don’t mess with a Knight woman, she knows where to aim and she’ll definitely hit the spot!

They spent nights around the camp fire outside of their cabin, roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories.  The twins didn’t talk too much about their grandfather’s death.  He’d always been very active in their lives, but the mystery of their father and all the weirdness they’d dealt with as small kids kind of made them of a stronger skin.  Instead, they enjoyed the holiday with their mother and grandmother.

“Our birthday is coming up,” Dominic said, cornering Marla one morning.  “Is mom going to finally tell us about dad?”

Marla sighed, “I don’t know sweetie.  Your mom is only worried about you two, that’s all.  She’s not withholding just to be cruel.”

“We should know, everyone should know who their father is.”

“Sometimes, yes… but in this case?  I can’t help but wonder.”

When they weren’t trying to get information out of her, they were enjoying a round of early-morning fishing.  Kit wasn’t nearly as eager, deciding to instead read a book and try not to fall asleep.  Marla, herself, was quite the experienced fisherman so she gave the twins plenty of tips.  One has to be able to make their own catch to be a culinary marvel!

While the twins enjoyed the mountains, they didn’t quite understand the culture.  A round of Slap Dancing later and they were both terribly confused.

“Dom, this is silly,” Nadia exclaimed, feeling awkward amidst the crowd of slap-happy locals and their own mother.

“I know, I don’t even know how you’re supposed to do that leg thing.”

“Let’s go poke that hole over there.  Maybe a snake will come out!”

“Okay!”

“Mom, why aren’t you more upset about dad’s death?”

Marla sighed, closing her eyes, “it’s complicated, but I’m sure you know that.  I guess I’m just glad it’s over, you know?  We’ve really only stayed together these past years because we were too old to start over.”

“Dad wasn’t very faithful.”

“Not in the least, sweetie.  I’ve spent years blaming Katarina, but I guess it wasn’t just her, it was him, too.  It feels like a weight gone, I don’t have to worry about it anymore.  I feel free.”

“Do you think our family is doomed when it comes to love?  Nothing ever seems to work out.”

“I think that we make our own luck, Kit.  You can make the best of something, if you really try, or you can cling to something you know isn’t going to work out.  In the end, your luck is driven by the decisions you make, for better or worse.”

“Sometimes, I feel like a fool.  A really big joke,” Kit frowned, staring forward.  “I’m probably going to be alone forever, just because I was so stupid when I had chances.”

“You don’t know that, maybe you’ll meet someone here.”

“I don’t want to,” Kit languished.  “I feel old and I know I’m almost there, teetering on the edge.  I have two kids who I can’t even tell about their father, for fear he’ll find out or worse his father will find out.  I’m too complicated to start anything… and even that wasn’t true, I wouldn’t want to.”

“You’ll be okay, sweetie.  You’re strong, you’ve made it this far.”

“I guess so, but I still feel really stupid.  The feelings are still there and I don’t think they’ll ever go away.  It sucks, to know someone has that kind of control over you without really knowing it or even caring.”

“Just focus on what you need to do now.  You will have to tell them, sooner or later… or they’ll find out on their own.”

Kit leaned back against the wall, closing her eyes, “I know, I know, I just… I’m not ready to open that can of worms yet.”

The get away was a success and both the twins were exhausted.  Marla tucked them in, checking their suitcases before she left the room to ensure that everything was packed.  This was the last time she’d do this as when they returned home, they’d have their birthday and be too big for grandma to tuck them in anymore.

Had it really been so long ago that they’d been born and Kit had come to their door looking a mess?

Nadia and Dominic did, indeed, have their birthday.  At this point, it was almost impossible to deny their lineage, written plain as day in their eyes, on their faces.  They seemed to have nothing of Kit in them, just a painful reminder of the past.

————————-

Note from Mao: Travis kicked the bucket the first day of play, LOL!  Good thing I checked his age bar and had the present state of mind to call the nanny.  Kit and Marla don’t get home until late at night.  Marla couldn’t have cared less, he had cheated on her at Shelly’s party, so she was furious with him.  Go figure!

Sometimes, I feel really bad for Kit.  After hanging out with her mother in the sauna, she rolled up a “WooHoo in Sauna” want.  Sorry, Kit, no dice.

The twins turned out amazing.  It’s kind of ridiculous to think their father doesn’t show blatantly… Dominic has his face and Nadia the skintone and eyes.  Geeze.  Also, I didn’t get a picture of it, but when they were still kids… Dominic brought Selene home from school, LOL!  Awwwkward.

Knight – Round 26: ‘A Slice of Life’

Marla and Travis Knight have a pretty rough marriage, but they put their differences aside for their eldest daughter, Kit.  She’s moved in with her twins, Dominic and Nadia.  So far, everything is going fine… but for how long?

Dominic and Nadia are energetic and enjoy active games.  They especially love cops and robbers.  Maybe they do know about their father after all?  Technically, their grandfather is a criminal.  It’s hard to say which side they favor at this point.

Nadia is the talker of the two.  She isn’t shy about anything and never hesitates to share her opinion.  She speaks with her grandmother at breakfast about how nice it would be to have lots of money.  Marla agrees that money makes things easier, but is not necessarily a requirement for a happy and good life.

“Well, I guess having a lot of best friends would be nice, too.”

Nadia’s a bit fickle with her aspirations.  Sure, she’s only six, but she likes to think ahead.  Kit is a little worried.  She doesn’t want her daughter ending up in the same situation as her.  Kit was definitely guilty of having issues when it comes to decision making.

Dominic remains silent, preferring to observe his sibling’s oddities from a safe distance.

Kit works throughout the day, so Marla is usually home with the twins after school.  She helps them with their studies.  Dominic is definitely the star student.  He always does his homework in a timely manner before doing anything else.  He seems pretty eager to learn new things.

Nadia, on the other hand, prefers to talk to her friends on the phone.  She speaks to Megan Alioto about her idea–a tiny, pocket-sized bullet-train.  Megan isn’t quite convinced of its relevance, but gives Nadia the proper kudos for her imagination.

Nettle and Gaeta have two kittens, Rincewind and Twoflower.  With five cats in the house now, it’s become a bit much.  The hallway is almost always cluttered with cats and is sometimes hard to navigate.  The twins are quite enamored with the kittens, though.

Marla thinks that it would be a good idea for Kit to get out and have a vacation.  It’d be nice to getaway with the twins and forget about all her worries.  Kit agrees, but at this moment, it isn’t exactly plausible.  Maybe when the kids are on break from school.

No one asked the maid, but she seems to agree.  Who hasn’t heard about Kit’s trainwreck of a love life?

Marla is still working on her restaurant, though it’s quickly reaching the top.  She hires on a new server, a young teen.  She wears too much makeup and grumbles about the stifling kimono, but she attracts the would-be pedos and asianophiles just fine.

As much as she loves her restaurant, Marla has to admit that maybe she’s getting a bit too old.  She wants to spend time with her grandkids.  Maybe it’s time to retire?  She isn’t sure what to do with the restaurant, though.  She can’t pass it on to Kit, she never had much skill with cooking.  Jennifer, on the other hand, was well on her way.  Maybe she’d want it?

Dominic brings home Deidre O`Hanlon from school one day.  He’s quite enthralled by her strange, black eyes and her pale features.  They talk about their respective houses and families.  It seems they have a lot in common when it comes to crazy family dynamics and large homes.

Nadia doesn’t think Deidre is all that special.  In fact, she thinks she’s a little freaky looking.  What did she have, eye surgery or something?  Who wants all black eyes?

Dominic is quick to defend his new-found friend.  Everyone knows that Deidre’s father, Patrick, is partially alien.  Even Deidre’s brother, Francis, has the black eyes.

Of course, Nadia is unconvinced.  Deidre is not special, she’s weird.

Travis tries to set up his wayward daughter with a doctor friend, but she refuses.  She isn’t really ready to date again.  In fact, she’s not sure if she ever wants to again.  Besides, it’d be difficult to try and introduce a man into the twins’ lives at this point.  She’s just happy being single and working.  It may not be the most social of lives, but at least it’s drama-free.

—————————

Note from Mao: Sorry for the kickin’ it old school, recap style of this update.  I’m kind of exhausted and I have a bit of a headache, but I wanted to get this update out so I don’t fall behind, lol.  Nothing too terribly interesting happened at this house.

And yes, Deidre and Dominic are related, they are second cousins.  Unfortunately, Mao has stopped caring.  We’ll see how things go.  There’s still plenty of other options. ;)

Knight – Round 25: ‘Difficulty Levels’

Kit Knight has been forced to move back into her parents house after the messy end of her relationship to James Anderson.  With her, comes the twins, Nadia and Dominic.  Jennifer never signed up to be a babysitter, Travis thought his baby days were over, but Marla?  She couldn’t be happier.

Marla couldn’t have been happier to have Kit home with her babies.  Sure, their birth wasn’t exactly ideal and their father had no idea and let’s not forget the fact that he’s the son of Gordon Saunders… but whatever.  They were grand babies and they were adorable.

Travis was a little less enthused.  He was looking for peace and quiet… which wasn’t readily available with twins.

“It’s only temporary, dad,” Kit assured him.  “Just until I get back on my feet.  I don’t like this anymore than you do.”

He sighed, “it’s nice to have you home, Kit.  I just wish… you’ve put me in a tight spot here.”

Travis had dealings with Gordon.  It was why he was so successful as the DA.  Kit knew this, but was adamant.

“Claude can’t know.  Not yet.”

“He might not, but Gordon will.  Whether I tell him or not.”

Jennifer wasn’t happy, either.  She never signed on to be an extra babysitter.  She was young!  She didn’t want anywhere near babies right now.  The twins were walking and needing pottytrained.  She wanted to be out with friends.

Needless to say, Jennifer left home early and fled to college.

Kit was finding that even with her parents help, raising twins wasn’t easy.  She was exhausted all the time.  She rarely ever saw adults outside of her own family.  She loved the twins, she did, but sometimes she just wanted to get away and be free for awhile.  It was hard.  She’d have to swallow it down and not let them see it, lest they think they were some horrible mistake.

Even if they were, Kit didn’t want them to feel that burden.

She did her best not to rely too heavily on her parents for help.  She wanted to prove to them she wasn’t a huge screw up, though she hadn’t done such a great job of that so far.  She taught the twins to walk, talk, and use the potty.  She even took care of their evening bathes.  The only time her parents stepped in were to cuddle and coo, or watch them while she went to work.

Sade eventually came over to cheer her up, though she was busy with her own set of twins.  Kit had no idea how she did it.  But then again, she had Michael.  Kit still couldn’t quite figure that out, why someone like Michael would be so completely infatuated with someone like Sade.  It just didn’t make sense.

“You look rough,” Sade said, giving her friend a once over.  “How long has it been since you got a full night’s rest?”

“Thanks, but it’s been awhile.”

“Are you going to tell him?”  Sade watched her friend carefully and followed up with, “he has a baby now, you know, with Emily.”

Kit sighed, “I know and I don’t know if I should tell him now.”

“You should.  Gordon already knows, I think.  He has ways, you know?  You don’t want him with leverage over your head.”

“He’s your father-in-law, Sade!”

Sade gave her a look, “and that’s exactly why I know you don’t want him on your bad side!”

As the twins got older, they came to be even more of a handful.  Nadia was especially difficult, often wandering off and sleeping in the cat beds.  Kit was so exhausted and at her wit’s end.  She counted the days until they could take care of themselves and give her a bit of space.

Of course, the younger years pass by quickly and soon, the twins were ready for school.  There was no denying who their father was, it showed on their faces as plain as day.  Kit was going to have one heck of a time trying to keep them underwraps.

—————————————–

Note from Mao: Poor Kit!  She really isn’t good at this mothering thing.  The twins are SO CUTE!  Sade and Michael also randomly visited, which was hilarious.

Knight – Round 24: ‘No More Words, Pt. 2′

Marla Knight is hardly happy about her husband, Travis’, indiscretions… but isn’t quite prepared to deal with a divorce.  Jennifer is feeling the effects of the chasm building between her parents.

Jennifer sneaks out late at night to join Sage on a bit of a joy ride.  Sage isn’t a bad kid by any means, but every now and again, it’s time for some fun.  Besides, it was mostly Jennifer’s idea.  She wants to get out of the house and away from her crazy parents for awhile.  Sage can’t deny her friend!

Unfortunately, they get busted.  Not so bad for Sage, but monumentally bad for Jennifer.  Her parents are not pleased and she gets lectured by them both.  Even worse, they pulling her out of public school!  She’s being removed from her friends and thrown into an Academy.  All they have to do is schmooze the headmaster.

The headmaster was quite impressed by Marla’s cooking and her fame, it took very little to convince him to allow Jennifer to attend, despite the recent bust.  He assures her parents that being a part of the prestigious Academy will straighten Jennifer out.  Keeping up with the requirements means hard work and dedication–no time for silly slacking off or sneaking out!

Academy life is tough, but Jennifer still manages to find time to hang out with her friends, Sage Saunders and Rosa Anderson.  Rosa and Jennifer don’t always get along, but Sage is the glue that holds their little group together.  She’s always quick to jump in and act as the mediator between the two.  Rosa is kind of upset that they didn’t include her in their excursion, but admits that she wouldn’t have gone, anyway.  Her parents would kill her if she got busted!

Kit comes over to tell her mother the news–that she’s most likely pregnant.  She has all the signs.  At first, Marla is happy, but the apprehension on Kit’s face quickly takes that away.

“The problem is,” Kit begins, taking a deep breath, “I don’t know who the father is.”

It takes everything Marla has for her jaw to keep from reaching the floor, “you’re kidding, Kit!  How could you allow this to happen?”

“I don’t know, but it has and now I’m in a lot of trouble…”

“You’d best cross your fingers and hope it is James’!  If not, well, Kit… whatever happens, you’ve brought it on yourself.”

She sighed, “I know.”

————————

Note from Mao: Pardon the old header image–Jennifer is suffering from the ‘no profile picture’ syndrome and I’ve tried multiple times to fix it with no success!  Sigh.  She is also a naughty teen, always wanting to sneak out.

Knight – Round 23: ‘No More Words, Pt. 1′

Things have been going pretty all right for the Knight clan, but could it just be the calm before the storm?

Marla wasn’t quite sure what happened.  One minute, she was chatting with Kit while her daughter sampled her latest suggested dish for the restaurant, the next minute, everything just went to chaos.  Travis was still in his pajamas and Katarina had popped up out of nowhere.  She had brazenly made a move on Travis, to which he had groggily responded to.  Marla was infuriated, Kit was too shocked to do anything but stare.  Katarina sauntered into the living room.

“I’ll be waiting for you when you’re done here, Marla.”

“What do you think you’re doing, Katarina?!” Marla raged, so furious she felt her chest constrict and tighten.  “This is my house and you walk in here and accost my husband in front of me and my daughter?  Haven’t you done enough?”

“Obviously not,” Katarina said indignantly, “because you’re still as blind as ever.  Can’t you see?  Travis is a lout, he always has been.  He was at my store, Marla… and friendly conversation quickly became–”

Marla silenced her immediately, “shut up, just shup up! You’re nothing but a tramp and now you’re coming in here, messing up my family and trying to make yourself look like some sort of fidelity messiah?  Give me a break, Katarina.  Everything you’ve ever done in your entire life has been selfish.  All you care about is yourself!”

“The same could be said for you, putting your family through the tension of your quickly dissolving marriage…”

Get out!” Marla demanded, her voice reaching new octaves, “NOW!”

Before Katarina could leave, Kit came to have her say.  Unlike Marla, though, she wasn’t nearly as disciplined not to attack the woman that had made her life extremely difficult.  Her infidelity, her inability to commit–she blamed it all on her mother’s former best friend.

Katarina laughed her off, pushing her back, “you’ve got the wrong woman, Kit.  Your mother is the one who made you what you are!”

“You evil witch!” Kit snapped back, jumping on her.  Katarina was older, but skilled.  Kit found herself on the losing end of the battle.

Meanwhile, Jennifer was having her own trauma.  She heard the commotion downstairs and awoke abruptly from a vivid nightmare.  She worried that her father was gone and that her family was crumbling all around her.  The new house was built of a flimsy foundation, it seemed.  Would she suffer the same fate as the adult Kit?

Moving back to Boreal Springs had enabled Marla to reconnect with her fraternal twin Julie.  She called her the next morning and they met for coffee.    Julie was saddened to hear about what happened, but happy to see her twin again after so long.

“You could always move out,” she suggested.  “We have room.”

“Move my entire family out of the house I’ve been working towards my entire life?  No,” Marla sighed, taking a long sip.  “I’m too old to start over, anyway.  Jennifer’s nearly grown, Kit’s on her own now… and me?  I’d be all alone if I left Travis.”

“You could always come stay with us, Marla.”

“That’s all right.  I made my bed, I’ll just have to lie in it.  Thanks, though, Julie… I appreciate it.”

The aftermath was a simple one, Travis and Marla avoided each other.  They were cordial in front of the kids, but otherwise, went about their own lives.  They were both too old to divorce, but after what happened, Marla would sooner douse herself in gasoline and set herself on fire than talk to Travis.  It was strenuous on Jennifer, who was nearing puberty with amazing alacrity.  She looked to Kit for guidance.  She idealized her so much.

“You don’t want to be like me, Jen,” Kit confided, sighing.  “Just be you.”

Jennifer was adamant, “but you’re not unhappy like mom!  You have so much fun!”

“Not really.  It’s all a mess, everything.  Just be you.  In the end, it’s all you can do.”

And so, with her visions of her parents and Kit crushed, Jennifer was Jennifer.  She was angry, impulsive, yet had a very quick wit.  She sought knowledge–perhaps some explanation as to why she had been dealt such an unlucky hand.  Still, beneath her rough exterior, Jennifer was incredibly fragile.  It would just be incredibly hard to see, covered with all the… other stuff.

Marla was determined to have someone inherit her legacy, but it seemed highly unlikely.  Jennifer just wasn’t into it.  She didn’t really care about cooking.  When she would goof up, she’d just shove it all in her mouth, much to Marla’s horror.  Why couldn’t she have had at least one child inherit her natural talents?  Her businesses would die with her, it seemed.

——————–

Note from Mao: I have no idea WTF happened.  I was playing and then I heard the BOOOING!  And I look over and there’s Katarina, come out of NOWHERE, and Travis is getting slapped and it was just insane.  Then Kit attacked Katarina and Jennifer was having a nightmare and wow.  Jennifer is a Knowledge sim, and she has ZERO nice points.  Fun.  She’s also very angry at several people, thanks to all the house fighting!

Knight – Round 22: ‘Moving On Up’

Travis and Marla Knight have entered their elder years, but instead of relaxing and being grandparents, they’re still parents.  Little Jennifer is just now on the cusp of childhood.

Travis had been extremely apprehensive about being  dad to a young girl with gray hair, but the more he did it, the less of an issue it became.  Jennifer was sweet and quiet, almost as if she knew her parents couldn’t quite keep up with a rambunctious toddler.  It could also be because the house was quite small and there wasn’t much room to run around.  With his new position and a ‘security deposit’ from an unnamed source, Travis had been looking around at houses.  Marla was eager to move back to the neighborhood she grew up in–Boreal Springs.

Kit came over with Sade for one last gander at the house she grew up in.  Of course, Sade was much too busy playing with the cats to bother feeling the nostalgia.  Her response was that it was a good move for them.  After all, this was the same place Travis had cheated on Marla with Katarina.  Kit had always known about that, but she would have preferred it if her best friend kept a tighter lip about it.

They were also over for Jennifer’s birthday.  She was a big girl now, able to do things on her own.  She also seemed to have a burst of energy, running around the house, terrorizing the cats and her parents.  It was a good thing the house they had contracted to be built in Boreal Springs was ready.  Marla wasn’t sure how much longer this tiny house could hold the tornado of youth that was Jennifer.

She also admired her older, gorgeous sister quite a bit.  She told her mother often she wanted to have as many ‘best friends’ as Kit did.  Marla sighed.  She didn’t have the heart to tell Jennifer that her older sister slept around to ‘attain’ those best friends…

The new house was gorgeous and roomy.  Marla had never lived in anything like it before.  She was quite ecstatic.  Travis, too, was happy.  Finally, he had a home to reflect his wealth.  Everyone knew that the rich people moved to Boreal Springs to build big houses.  Well, except select few… those who lived in Aperture were usually tied to crime.  Travis needed to distance himself, for the sake of his family and his reputation.  Dealing with Gordon was lucrative indeed, but he needed to keep a low profile or he’d get an unpleasant night visit.

After all the furniture and everything was situated, things settled down for the family.  Jennifer had more than ample room to run around, and she had a backyard.  There were also children everywhere for her to play with.  All in all, it was a good choice.  Marla tried not to think where all the money had come from, nor how the construction had been completed so… quickly.  She just sat back and enjoyed the luxury.

Besides, she was too preoccupied trying to sort out her eldest daughter, Kit.  Kit was an anomoly.  She had a great mind, very sharp, yet she degraded herself continually by just sleeping around.  Marla worried it was the fued she had with Katarina Anderson coming back to haunt her.  Recently, she’d heard that Kit was involved with no less than three people–Claude Saunders, James Yu, and Marcus Yu.

“You need to sort out your life, Kit,” Marla warned her one evening.  “I’m worried about you.  James is a good boy, he really likes you, he always has.  Do you think he’ll stand for you dating around?  He could easily go and find someone else.”

Kit sighed.  She wasn’t in the mood.  She had just seen Claude and the fact he was a vampire still… bothered her.  “Mom, please.  I’m fine, okay?”

“But I heard you were messing with Marcus Yu now, too!  What are you thinking, Kit?”

“That was… I don’t know, but it isn’t serious.  It only happened once.  Look, mom, I’m fine, okay?  If you need anymore help with the stores, let me know, but I gotta go.  It’s a long drive back to Aperture.  Love you, I’ll call you tomorrow.”

And with that, she exited.  Marla sighed.

—————————–

Note from Mao: Kit is INSANE.  I’ve never had a Knowledge sim like her.  She brought Marcus Yu with her and just, BAM.  Within seconds, steamy makeouts… WHAT?  Seriously, WHAT?  Oh boy.  This girl, I tell you.  Poor James.  And yes, I moved Marla and co to a new, extravagant house!  They needed it–they had tons of cash and that townhouse was way, way too cramped.  Jennifer scares me.  She jumps on the bed constantly.

Knight – Round 21: ‘Passing Days’

Travis and Marla Knight have been surprised with a very late baby.  Will this interfere with their current plans?

While neither Marla nor Travis really wanted to have another child, they still lavished Jennifer with attention.  The worst part of it was that she was a ‘late in life’ baby and soon, her parents would be graying.  Marla wasn’t quite sure how she felt about having a child and also waiting to be a grandma.  It was a little strange.

Travis, on the other hand, was mostly concerned about going gray.

Anticipating troublesome toddler days, Marla started to get in shape.  Running around the restaurant and the bakery were certainly exercise, but doing some work at home couldn’t hurt, either.  Even if Jennifer turned out to be a fairly untroublesome toddler, Marla would still be ready for anything.  Bosco supported her, in spirit, from his cat bed where he dozed lazily.

Travis was older than Marla, so he went gray first.  It wasn’t as bad as he had originally thought, he still looked good.  In fact, the gray had added to it.  His position as the DA was made for this type of appearance.  Upon seeing Travis’ transition, Marla was becoming less and less certain about her own.  Gray hair, really?  But she still had so much to do…

Thankfully, Jennifer turned out to be a well-behaved toddler.  Whenever Marla got the chance, she spent some time with her youngest daughter.  Kit even came in from Boreal Summit University a few times to see her.  Marla had heard rumors as to what was happening there and preferred not to think them true.  As tempting as it was to ask Kit about them, she resisted.

When she wasn’t at home, she was working.  Her restaurant’s ratings were soaring through the roof and it was definitely pleasing to read all the wonderful reviews.  She tried to really get in with her customers, greet them, ask them how their meal was, all of that good stuff.  Sade’s face was indifference really didn’t help Marla’s confidence, but she hadn’t ordered yet.

Of course, with popularity comes creepy perverts who only come to see women dressed in kimonos, serving him food.  Marla had to deal with several of these men, who loudly declared their love for their waitress and scared her back into the kitchen where she fetched Marla.  Chasing them out was easy, there were several large pans at Marla’s disposal back there.

She was beginning to wonder if she should hire a guy onto her staff, just to prevent these issues.

Note from Mao: Things are pretty standard here again.  I mostly played with Marla’s restaurant, trying to get it to 10 stars.  Only one away, yay!

Knight – Round 20: ‘And She Was, End’

Marla and Travis Knight have survived a slight “snag” in their marriage and have a lovely and brilliant daughter, Kit, who is ready to go to University.

Kit had spent many late nights working on her latest obsession–the stars and space.  She couldn’t quite explain the thrill to anyone else, but she certainly felt it when she gazed up at the endless sky.  It was just inconceivable to think that there wasn’t life out there.  She was determined to find out.

She made a makeshift “beacon” out of the large and expensive telescope her parents had gifted her.  She spent many late nights trying to contact “outside life.”

Travis, meanwhile, was enjoying his new job as DA.  Mary O’Hanlon left some big shoes to fill, but he was determined to do just that.  He had clawed his way to the top and he was intent to keep himself king of the hill.  There was some messy business involving a crime organization that weighed heavily on his mind, but somehow, he wasn’t too concerned with it.

Kit was surprised when she finally met her visitors from the endless beyond.  She was lifted off the ground and floated weightlessly into what looked like a gigantic metal plate with flashing lights.  It was unfortunate that when she returned, she remembered nothing of what happened after that.

She did manage to earn a scholarship for it, though.  Sure, they deemed her story ‘creative writing’, but thought it was so well done that she certainly deserved some money.  Kit was determined to prove it wasn’t fiction.

Marla was in for her own surprise.  She and Travis had never planned on having anymore kids, but life has a funny way of surprising you.  Marla was pregnant.  She hadn’t even realized it until late.  She was older and so, she had to be more careful, but she was happy.  Kit was a wonderful child and she’d miss her.  Now she had something to keep her occupied.

Travis was too busy to really react.  He was hoping for a boy, but that’s about as much time as he could invest in the new baby.  It would seem that the criminal organization was a bigger threat and problem that he previously realized.  It was becoming time consuming and annoying to deal with.  Travis was a man of means and he really didn’t see any real way to topple this behemoth.  No, there had to be another way to deal with it…

Kit was in her senior year when she befriended James Yu.  He was a nice kid and he shared her interest for the ‘visitors’.  Unfortunately, he seemed to take their relationship has something more.  Kit was several years older and generally uninterested.  She tried to let him down kindly, but he insisted that age was just a number.

That may be true, but University was not a number and it was quite a distance.  She bid her friend farewell and hopped into a cab with Sade O`Hanlon.

Before Kit even got settled at Boreal Summit University, little Jennifer Knight was born.  Marla was overjoyed to have another girl.  She followed the same pattern of looks as her sister, but she had Marla’s brown hair.

Note from Mao: I didn’t anticipate them having another kid at all.  Curse you, risky woohoo!  I miss InTeen, LOL.  Oh, and a bonus shot of Kit, post-abduction.  Hilarious!  Bosco ran out after she landed and proceeded to give that UFO what for.

Knight – Round 19: ‘And She Was, Pt. 2′

Marla and Travis have managed to make it past Travis’ ‘little indiscretion’ with Katarina Anderson.  Their daughter Kit has grown up into a lovely young lady with good business sense.

Kit: Sade, if you get this, I’m still alive.  I managed to smuggle my Blackberry to this trip from the seven circles of Hell.  I’m sending you this email while I hide in the sauna.  Whew.  It’s pretty hot in here.  It feels like I’m sweating off my skin.  But it’s the only place I know my parents won’t look for me, so I gotta be quick.

Things have been pretty uneventful here in the land of weird.  You know how you see all those ninjas on TV and stuff?  Well, apparently, they exist here.  I know because I spoke to one and he taught me this cool little trick.  Don’t worry, I’ll show you when I get back.  If you are dead set on being an actress, this is one move you won’t want to miss.

Of course, you know why we’re here.  Mom is doing ‘research’ for new dishes at her restaurant.  The foot here isn’t too bad, but I don’t know.  It really isn’t my thing.  I didn’t really get the talent in the culinary arts that mom has.  You’d probably like it, though.  Bunch of rice and vegetables and stuff.  I know how you are about “diets”.

And before you ask, no, there really weren’t any hot guys.  I mean, there were, but they were older.  One guy looked really familiar to me and I couldn’t figure out why.  So that kind of killed the attraction factor.  It was just so weird, like I’d seen him somewhere before.

I did find that I can make a killing off playing Mahjong for money!  I’m a regular, uh, tile shark?

I tried to check out this neat little shrine but all I got for my effort was attacked by BEES!  You know how I hate bees.  What a horrible trip it’s been!  I just want to go home.  I have to finish my studies and I’m hardly prepared for University yet… have you decided if you’re going yet or not?  Actresses still need to go to University and it’d be nice to have someone I know there, too.

Oh, and I know you think that helicopters are just glamorous… but they’re not.  They are noisy and annoying.  We took one on a tour and it was crazy.  I hope I never have to travel in one again!

One more thing before I go (I swear, I’m going to die in here.  It’s so HOT!), I learned this really cool technique.  It’s like ‘dance exercise’ or something.  Anyway, I’ll show you when I get home.  It’ll be good for you to ‘tighten up’ for those close-ups.  Body doubles are for sissies.  Okay, time to go before this thing melts in here.

-Kit

Note from Mao: Contrary to Kit’s perspective, they had a good vacation and she has a ton of memories.  I wasn’t going to write this from Kit’s POV, but she seemed to be the focal point of the vacation and I kept hearing her quips in my head as they happened, so there you go.  I have been caught up with my gamplay for the past few updates, that’s why they’ve been slow.  Sorry!  I haven’t been feeling too well, so things might be a little slow.  Maybe.

Knight – Round 18: ‘And She Was, Pt. 1′

Marla and Travis Knight had a rough patch, but after some work, their marriage has perservered. Kit, meanwhile, has been oblivious and happy.

Despite her ballet lessons, Kit still wasn’t nearly as feminine as other girls. She spoke of baseball like any boy child would, knowing all about the bases and the lingo. Marla would usually just stare, trying not to pass any judgement. She wanted Kit to be happy, but she also wasn’t quite sure how she would handle it if Kit turned out to be like Marla’s twin, Julie.

But then Marla thought of her older sister Sara and realized that it wasn’t always good to assume.

Shelly Yu was younger than Kit, but they were friends all the same. Kit would usually put off her lessons in favor of talking to Shelly. There was a lot of gossip flying around, some not appropriate for children’s ears, but they heard it nonetheless.

Shelly always managed to wow Kit by trying to explain her ‘strange’ family and how her uncle was also her mother’s ex-husband.

Marla, meanwhile, kept working on her restaurant. She made sure to please her patrons by personally chatting with them after their meals. She was a little surprised to see Claude Saunders stop by… she had spoken to Gordon a few times, and they had a tenuous agreement.

Claude was refreshingly kind and complimentary.

Travis also continued working on his respective career. He was so close to becoming the new DA he could taste it. Of course, his fervor for his job did not get in the way of his relationship with Kit. He was even more thankful for Marla’s patience and quick-thinking. Had they divorced due to his silly lapse in judgement, he wouldn’t see Kit running out to hug him everyday he came home from work.

Kit soon became a teenager and quite a lovely one, at that. She was eager to help her mother out and so Marla opened her bakery in Boreal Springs. She couldn’t have done it without Kit’s help, who proved to be quite the little saleswoman. She was keen and quick, with a healthy thirst for knowledge and all things unknown.

She especially liked trying to figure out how to get people to buy things they didn’t necessarily need.

While Marla spent her time baking up a storm, Kit took care of restocking. Sometimes she’d handle the cash register, too, but once business got too hectic, they’d need to hire an employee. Kit had already started compiling a spreadsheet of possible candidates.

One of Kit’s customers turned out to be a local reviewer, who was happy to give the business not only a good review, but a Best of the Best award!

Another one of Kit’s suggestions was the possibility of holding a cooking contest. It would draw a crowd, give the local talent some time to shine, and also give Marla the opportunity to panhandle some of her mechandise. She wasn’t far from becoming a celebrity in the world of food and it would certainly do wonders for her publicity.

Marla was beginning to wonder who was better suited to be the businesswoman here, herself or her daughter.

Note from Mao: Kit is quite quick, I’ll give her that! She did really good helping Marla, despite having no badges. I think I see businesses in her future…
