Anderson – Round 7: ‘Unfortunate Ends, Pt. 4′

Thomas Anderson has it all figured out and as long as his daughter, Alyssa, continues to be the ‘dutiful daughter’, everything should go smoothly. Jun Yu is just along for the ride.

Alyssa does her homework

Unfortunately for Alyssa, Thomas found out that she wasn’t doing her homework. From that point on, he would keep a very close eye on her and make sure she finished it herself. While he really didn’t care about the ‘poor’ boy who had been toiling extra hard to do her work as well as his own, he did care that his daughter have a mind in that pretty head of hers. He wouldn’t have her being vapid and shallow.

Haughty and intelligent, sure, but not brain dead! It wasn’t like she was Jun’s kid.

Alyssa sneaks out

Thomas never found out about his dutiful little daughter sneaking out on school nights to go to parties, however. She was the ‘it’ girl and it wasn’t a party unless she was there turning boys down! She didn’t really drink or do anything bad, she just made an appearance. She always had Ryu with her, so she was fine and safe. The boys would usually give up and hit on one of her posse. Their standards weren’t nearly as high and their fathers let them date.

Thomas talks to Jun

While his daughter was in ‘order’, Thomas tried to make sure Jun was also within her own boundaries. She was a major flake, to be sure, and Thomas wasn’t dumb enough to think she’d suddenly stop after dumping Henry. He was especially interested in the fact that she’d been seen with Shaniqua Saunders a lot lately. To this, Jun simply said:

“We’re birds of a feather, Tommy. She doesn’t care about what happened between Henry and I. She needs someone to talk to and I’m there. That’s it. You know I don’t go for girls.”

Thomas cringed at her shortening of his name, but decided to stick to the matter at hand, “she’s a Saunders in the end and she does ‘go for girls’, as you say.”

Jun rolled her eyes, “I think you need to worry more about your little darling daughter and less about me. Maybe you ought to ask her about Ryu, huh?”

Thomas fulfills his LTW

While Thomas had come home that night planning on grilling Alyssa about Ryu, he found he wasn’t in the mood. He felt fulfilled and on top of the world. Nothing could bring him down. It was about to get a lot better, too. His new position gave him very important intelligence on the recent crime activity. A rat in Janine’s syndicate had let him in on a little plot of hers.

He’d be ready and waiting, with a smile on his face. Nothing could bring him down now.

Janine enters

Thomas waited patiently in the dark, listening as the door opened without trouble. He’d left it unlocked, figuring she’d just try to pick it instead of doing something clumsy like climbing through a window. While he had been anticipating something criminal, he hadn’t expected what he saw when he flipped on the lights.

Despite the situation turning against her, Janine walked calmly to Thomas, her heels sounding against the hardwood floors. Everyone else was asleep–it was nearly 2am.

Thomas talks to Janine

“Surprised?” Thomas said simply, looking up at her. “Did you expect me to be asleep? What were you going to use… a knife, a gun, your hands?”

Janine’s eyes narrowed, “how did you–”

“You’re good, Janine,” he replied, smirking. “But I’m better. That was always the case, wasn’t it? I will commend you on the outfit, though. If I hadn’t been married to you for nearly twenty years, I wouldn’t have recognized you.”

“What do you want, Thomas?”

Thomas propositions Janine

He stood up, smiling like a cat that had caught a mouse in a dead-end corner. Janine didn’t back down, she held her ground, trying her best to stand firm. She was a well-known criminal–she’d done things that others would cringe at. She couldn’t let herself be intimidated by Thomas.

“You know me too well. I suppose there’s no point continuing the small-talk. We have a history, Janine, that’s undeniable. While you may hate me for what I’ve done and I find your marriage to that Saunders cretin repulsive, I can’t help but think we’d do much better for ourselves if we worked together.”

At this, Janine scoffed, “are you joking? What could you have that I possibly want?”

“Intelligence that your little criminal syndicate could never acquire without risking life and limb. Also, your daughter… who with my tutelage, will be mayor.”

Janine is swayed

“A-Alyssa… you’re using her…”

“Using her?” He laughed. “She’s my daughter, too, Janine. I simply want her… to do well for herself, and perhaps help me while she’s at it. It isn’t using, it is merely taking advantage of what’s given. Tell me, you can’t deny how… resourceful having the mayor in your pocket would be, Janine.”

“I… I couldn’t, Alyssa–”

Thomas shook his head, “will never know. She’s a good girl, bright and charming… but hardly quick. She lives in a fog and sees what she wants to. She’d never know, Janine. Think of how much you could do–what you could become.”

As much as she wanted to deny it, Janine couldn’t. He was right. He had thought this out and planned it very carefully. She hated him for it, but she couldn’t deny the truth. She sighed, her shoulders slumping in defeat. Thomas saw this and was quite pleased.

Janine is confused

Janine left feeling very, very confused. They would meet and discuss details later, at a more secure location. But that’s not what Janine was thinking about at all. Instead, her mind was abuzz with feelings she thought she had dismissed a long time ago. She and Thomas had a long history… and seeing him as he was now–well, it was dangerous, and wrong… just like being a criminal.

She couldn’t say no to being a criminal and she wasn’t quite sure she could say no to Thomas, either. Now that they would be ‘working’ together, things were about to get a lot more complicated.

Thomas busts Alyssa

Later in the week, Thomas finally caught Alyssa with Ryu. He was carrying her books when they walked through the front door to find Thomas waiting for them. He was usually at work, so Alyssa was quite surprised. He wasted no time letting Alyssa know that this was unacceptable.

“But daddy,” Alyssa protested, stomping her small foot. “We’re not dating! He’s my um, cousin, or something…”

“He is not, Alyssa.” Thomas said firmly. “He’s not related to you at all! What did I tell you about boys? You have to focus!” He turned his attention to Ryu. “You need to leave right now and stay away from my daughter.”

Alyssa squealed angrily, “I do focus! And Ryu helps keep the boys away! You can’t tell him to go away–”

Ryu, who had kept quiet the entire time, suddenly found himself between two very angry Andersons. Suddenly, he wanted to go home. Fast. Unfortunately, Alyssa seized his arm and drug him away while Thomas screamed after them.

Alyssa kisses Ryu

Her cheeks flushed with rage, Alyssa slammed the door shut and turned to Ryu. He didn’t have a chance to say a word before she kissed him. When she pulled away, her fists balled at her sides and she glared at the door.

“Lets see how he likes that! If he wants to assume we’re dating, then so be it!”

Ryu just stared at her, completely oblivious to anything she was saying. It wasn’t until Thomas bodily removed him from the house that he realized what had happened. It was too late, of course. Alyssa was going to University the next morning and he wouldn’t see her until it was turn to go.

Suddenly early enrollment sounded like a very good idea.

Alyssa is punished

Before she left for University, Alyssa was tasked with many, many arduous chores as punishment. She took it all in stride, smiling proudly. She had gotten the upper-hand this time! Unfortunately, she didn’t quite realize that Ryu wasn’t in on the ‘scheme’. She’d have to inform him at University that it was just to make her dad angry. She had just been so upset…

Wait, upset? Why would she be upset? It was just Ryu… even if he was always around and always did everything she asked and was always, always there. Even when her stupid friends were too busy.

No, Ryu was just her minion. That was his purpose. He was supposed to be always there. Alyssa couldn’t possibly care about someone so low on the totem pole… could she? No, he was just Ryu. He’d probably look like the same meek little boy that followed her around even after they were at University! Alyssa could never like someone like that.

——

Note from Mao: Okay, so Janine’s plot for revenge didn’t go according to plan AT ALL. I don’t know WHAT happened there, but it makes for more drama and a much better story! As for Alyssa and Ryu… that was want driven. That and Ryu autonomously flirted with her last round and caused them both to crush on each other. Ahh, the attraction system… (they have two bolts, btw).

Anderson – Round 6: ‘Misery Business, Pt. 1′

Anderson Family Round 6

Thomas Anderson successfully got away with his plan and now everything seems to be going his way. His lover, Jun Yu, is now under his roof and no longer screwing his enemy and his daughter, Alyssa, is the perfect little princess. But how does Alyssa feel about this?

Alyssa plays with Webster

Alyssa: I’m glad my mom left Webster here when she left. He’s about the only socialization I get outside of school! Daddy says, ‘you can have fun when you’re rich and powerful’… yeah, but when will that be? I wanna have fun now!

But, I don’t say that. Dad means well and he’s helped me out a lot. I just need to keep listening to him and I’m sure I’ll succeed. It was too bad mom didn’t do the same…

Alyssa practices for Thomas

Daddy also expects me to practice my communication regularly. He says that I’m going to be Mayor and then I’ll have all the friends in the world. I guess that makes sense and I am really charismatic! Plus, being mayor would mean I could have big, expensive parties!

Daddy doesn’t know it, but I’ve already got my own following at school. It’s really funny–guys are so stupid! I don’t even have to do my homework anymore… I just pretend to until daddy goes away. Some dork does it for me–I dunno his name. Not like it matters!

Alyssa calls for Janine

Speaking of dorks, when daddy and Jun are gone, I usually call my mom. I called one evening and some weirdo boy answered the phone! I don’t remember any boys being there–not aside from Derek and Henry. He sounded weird to, like he couldn’t talk or something. Whatever. I’ll have to be careful the next time I go over and visit… don’t want any creepy people following me home!

Thomas and Jun

I’m not sure what I think about daddy and Jun. I guess it’s good that mom and daddy are happy now… but Jun seems so young. I dunno, I guess it’s okay, though. She keeps daddy distracted and then I can watch TV or sneak a phone call or two.

Doesn’t daddy understand how hard it is to maintain your ‘it’ girl status? I have to be able to gossip!

Alyssa practices turning down boys

Daddy sometimes has me practice when he’s not watching. I like to practice my little ‘no way, you dork’ speeches! You’d be surprised how many of those I say in a day! I’ve got it down to a science.I also work on my other charms. Attractive guys like me too, obviously, but I have to tell them no. It’s so much more fun! They still do stuff for me and I don’t have to do anything!

——-

Note From Mao: Ahh, Alyssa. You’re scaring me! I’m really interested in what’s going to happen as things keep developing. Poor Ryu.

Saunders – Round 5: ‘Unfortunate Ends, Pt. 2′

Saunders Family Round 5

Henry Saunders has a crowded house, what with his fiancee Jun Yu, their son Ryu Yu, and his newly graduated son from his first wife, Derek Saunders, moving in with his fiancee, Katy Fuchs. Can they make it work? And will the news of Thomas and Jun’s affair spread to Henry?

Derek and Katy hug

Graduation was bittersweet for Derek Saunders. On one hand, he could finally pursue his career and make money. On the other hand, he lost Mary and was now engaged to his teenage love, Katy Fuchs. Derek liked Katy, but what they had was nothing compared to how he felt about Mary. She was in his every waking thought, making it incredibly difficult to be amiable with Katy.

Katy was surprisingly understanding and patient. To her, she had Derek and he wasn’t going anywhere. Mary was a respectable girl, after all, she wouldn’t be a ‘on the side fling’. She and Derek would get married and he’d eventually forget all about Mary O`Hanlon.

Henry sees for himself

Meanwhile, Henry found out for himself how troublesome relationships could be. Especially when your significant other is cheating on you with the enemy. Henry had taken a vacation day and apparently Jun hadn’t noticed he was still home. He nearly walked in on them in the kitchen. Instead of confronting them and kicking Thomas out of his house, he sat on his hands, waiting for the right moment.

Ryu sees for himself

Of course, Henry wasn’t the only one who knew. Ryu had seen it, as well. He had come home from school a day or two earlier and there it was, right before his young little eyes, his mother was embracing a stranger! He was torn up, but Jun nor Thomas seemed to notice him. He scrambled inside and tried to rationalize what he saw in his head.

Should he tell dad? But that would make them fight. Derek and Katy argued enough, the house didn’t need more fighting. He reasoned that maybe he saw wrong and kept quiet.

Derek and Ryu talk

Being quiet isn’t easy for a kid on the cusp of their teen years, though, and Ryu ended up confiding in his half-brother Derek.

“You should tell dad,” Derek said sternly. “Why didn’t you?”

“I knew she was no good,” Katy said quietly, muttering from behind her book. Suddenly, she looked apologetic, “Sorry, Ryu, but it’s true. Your mother is… well, maybe it’s best if your father knows.”

“I can’t tell him!” Ryu replied angrily. “He’d never believe me… I’m just a kid. Why don’t you do it, Derek?”

“No way, little dude. I didn’t see a thing.”

Henry confides in Janine

Fortunately for Ryu, he never had to say a word. That evening, Janine Anderson came over at Henry’s request. He had called her cell phone, as always, and was surprised to hear she wasn’t at home. When she arrived, he pulled her into the quietest place and told her everything.

“I know, Henry,” she said with a frown. “Thomas and I are divorced. It’s been a week. I had him followed and he was off on vacation with Jun.”

Why didn’t you tell me?” Henry was understandably hurt. “All this time…”

“I didn’t know how to,” she replied quickly and sadly. “I… I didn’t know if you’d believe me…”

Henry confesses to Janine

“Of course I would have believed you,” Henry responded, gently touching her face. “You’ve always been honest with me.”

“Henry…” she began carefully, but seeing the look on his face, found the confidence to continue. “I haven’t really. I mean, there’s things that–”

“It doesn’t matter. Where are you staying, are you all right?”

“He took everything, even Alyssa.” Janine sniffled. “I’ve been staying at a hotel, but my money is running out. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t trouble you with this.”

Henry shook his head and took her hand, “you can stay here… for as long as you like. It’s a little crowded, but there’s plenty of room.”

Anderson Family Round 5

Thomas Anderson is getting sloppy when it comes to hiding his affair with Jun Yu (or does he just not care anymore?) Will Janine finally catch him and what will become of Alyssa?

Janine sees Jun

One evening, when Janine had been heading to work (she claimed she was an extra in a crime drama), she ran into Jun Yu approaching the house. She looked surprised and tried to pretend she was just casually walking by. It would have been more convincing had she not been on their porch at the time.

“Nice outfit…” Jun said, giving her a look.

“Yes,” Janine replied coldly. “It is quite a comfortable uniform.”

If Janine hadn’t been suspicious before, she certainly was now.

Alyssa gets into private school

While Janine was at work and after Jun had left, Thomas worked on getting Alyssa accepted into the Private Academy that had recently opened near Boreal Springs. It accepted only the best of the best… which Alyssa was. She picked up things quickly and could memorize equations and phrases beyond her years. It didn’t take much talking to convince the headmaster that she was perfect.

She got her uniform and a one-way-pass to rub elbows with the snootiest kids that area had to offer.

Thomas and Alyssa spend time together

With her acceptance into the Academy, Alyssa found that she got everything she wanted. Before, her father had been nice to her, but now… she was even allowed to eat chips for breakfast! The more she excelled and did as he directed, the more things she got. Her room was overflowing with toys and things other kids wished they had. Of course, that would soon be irrelevant… she was coming up on her first teenage birthday.

That was when the fun of being spoiled would truly come in handy.

Janine and Thomas argue

Janine wasn’t nearly as thrilled about this as Alyssa was. She also wasn’t thrilled with catching Jun coming to the house when she just happened to be leaving for work. She confronted Thomas, but of course, it did nothing.

“You expect me to believe that Jun was just passing by? I’m not a complete idiot, Thomas!”

“I never said I expected you to believe anything. You’re the one assuming things.” He replied easily. “But I can’t talk about this now. As you know, I have a conference to attend.”

“How convenient.” Janine mumbled.

Janine checks the mail

Janine would not be so easily brushed aside, however. She had her ‘dear’ husband followed by an associate. It took a day or two for the package to arrive. When it did, Janine was hardly shocked. Why hadn’t she seen it before? How could she have been so blind? Conference, indeed.

She knew when Henry told her Jun was gone–for some work thing–that something was up. Now she had the proof. Could she bring herself to show it to Henry? They had a child together.

Thomas and Jun meet

Jun was hardly at ‘some work thing’ and the only conference Thomas had was with Jun. They met at the island, and Thomas knew that they were being followed. It didn’t matter much… Thomas had a plan. He always had a plan.”I hope this is a celebratory vacation,” Jun said with a slightly annoyed tone. “I’m sick of sneaking around and that house is so crowded!

“Oh, don’t worry,” Thomas assured her with a grin. “It is. But this is the only way I could ensure that despite the adultery, everything will still be mine.”

“Your wife is scary, Thomas.”

“Not nearly as scary as me.”

Jun talks to Henry while Thomas grins

“Yes, Ryu,” Jun said into the receiver with a sigh, “I’m sure it was great. Can you give the phone back to your daddy now?”

Jun had to keep the guise up, at least until they returned. She took calls and made sure to keep her lies straight–with the help of Thomas, of course. There was some satisfaction in sticking someone you disliked in the back with a knife. Thomas was enjoying this vacation quite a bit.

“…yeah, it’s raining. Really nasty weather…”

Alyssa is a teen

When Thomas returned, it was just in time for Alyssa’s birthday. She grew into a beautiful young lady and surprisingly, took after her father in features and retained her mother’s coloring. Of course, with her attitude and charisma, she was the newest ‘it’ girl at the academy.

She was harsh, cruel, and domineering. Nothing got in the way of what she wanted–she could have anything and everything! As long as she followed her father’s wishes, of course, and his first decree was no dating. That wouldn’t be too hard. She preferred torturing them to dating them, anyway.

Thomas tells Janine to beat it

Janine sat on her hands when it came to confronting Thomas. She wanted to, but if she did, it would cause a domino effect that would quickly reach Henry. He deserved to know, but she didn’t want him to find out like that. Unfortunately, Janine couldn’t have known that Thomas was plotting behind her back. He came home from work and approached her.

“I’m surprised you’ve kept quiet this long–I know you know, Janine. You had us followed. I also happen to know why you’ve got more gold than a bank.” He smiled cruelly. “You’re not the only one who can have someone followed.”

“What do you want?” Janine growled, her fists balling at her sides.

“Everything. We divorce ‘amiably’ in the eyes of the courts; irreconcilable differences–you’re a wanted criminal and I have Jun. The house, everything, it’s mine. You can go where and do as you please. But you won’t get a damned thing. If you don’t agree, you’ll find that these amenities won’t help you much behind bars.”

“You bastard,” Janine snarled. “This isn’t over!”

“Sure it is, good bye, Janine.”

Alyssa stays with Thomas

Janine woke Alyssa up hurriedly, telling her to pack her things. Alyssa looked at her oddly a minute before realization hit her. She frowned, but not entirely.

“I can choose who I stay with, can’t I?”

“Yes, you can. You’re old enough.” Janine said sadly. She knew where this was going and now all that time Thomas spent with her made sense. “Alyssa…”

“I want to stay with daddy.”

Janine leaves

As Janine left the house, a million thoughts ran through her mind. She narrowed her eyes and clenched her fists tightly. This was not over. Thomas was sneaky, but Janine was resourceful… and what did she have to lose? Nothing.

This was far from over.

——

Note from Mao: Okay, truth time… Thomas was caught by accident because I am an idiot. Janine was headed to work and Jun came over. I had Thomas greet her while Janine was in the carpool and well, yeah. But it was more interesting story wise this way.

Saunders – Round 4: ‘No Drama?’

Saunders family Round 4

Henry Saunders was nice enough to let his girlfriend, Jun Yu, move in with him and his twin daughters–Shaniqua and Gina. Jun Yu eventually gave birth to Henry’s son, Ryu Yu. How long can Henry remain ignorant to the fact that Jun is seeing his enemy, Thomas Anderson, behind his back?

Shaniqua can't do it

Things for the Saunders had been going so well, it was only a matter of time before something ‘bad’ happened. To Shaniqua, it was the end of the world. A boy from school had been chatting her up and flirting. It was all in good fun… and then, well, as teens tend to want to do, they kissed–or well, tried.

‘What am I doing?’ Shaniqua’s inner-voice interrupted the moment before their lips touched. She pushed the boy away, “No. Stop.”

Shaniqua is confused

“I’m sorry,” Shaniqua apologized suddenly, seeing the look on his face. “It’s… not you, it’s me.”

He rolled his eyes, muttered something inappropriate under his breath, and quickly stalked out of the Anderson house. It was a good thing he did, as Gina was watching carefully from the kitchen doorway, eyes narrowed on the lecherous young male.

Shaniqua pushed past her and ran to their room, not wanting to see or speak with anyone.

Henry teaches Ryu to walk

Meanwhile, Ryu was growing up by the day. He was learning to walk, albeit it slowly. Henry tried his best to help him, but Ryu was different than his siblings. He was an independent little toddler and he was determined to stand up by himself. It amused Henry to no end.

Jun preoccupied herself with working on her next big promotion at work. She wasn’t much into babies and was thankful Henry was. It meant she really didn’t have to do anything.

Shaniqua cooks

Really, nothing at all. Henry took care of Ryu, Gina kept everyone fed, and when Henry was at work, both the girls took care of Ryu. It was Heaven, as far as Jun was concerned. Everyone was so oblivious–she could sneak off anytime she wished!

Of course, Gina wasn’t thinking about Jun’s happiness or ability to cheat on her beloved father. Instead, as she pounded the hamburger meat a tad too roughly, she was thinking about Shaniqua. She’d been acting so strange lately and Gina couldn’t understand it. College was around the corner! Shaniqua had even abandoned her high-profile lifestyle and started being a loner.

Ryu is a child

Of course, despite her ‘fall from grace’, Shaniqua always had time for her little brother. Ryu was a kid before anyone really knew it–time seemed to go by so fast. He fit in perfectly with the rest of the Saunders household. His last name may have been ‘Yu’, but everything about him screamed ‘Saunders’.

Jun talks to Thomas

Of course, if Henry knew what Jun was doing behind his back, Ryu wouldn’t be the only one ‘screaming’. But he was blissfully oblivious–both due to his refusal to hear gossip and his natural-born ability to be a little… dense. He certainly wasn’t stupid, but his first wife was a perfect example of his inability to see things as they truly were…

Like when everyone is eating, but Jun is sneaking around in the other room, talking into the phone with hushed tones. A little suspicious.

Jun is busted. Again.

Henry also had no idea that Jun’s parents had stopped by while he was at work and Ryu was at school. They caught Jun with Thomas and it didn’t end well. They had come over to see Ryu, but upon seeing that, Risa read Jun the riot act. That never went over well.

Jun told her parents they’d be lucky if they ever saw Ryu and stormed into the house, dragging Thomas behind her.

Henry just misses Thomas...

Due to all that fuss, Thomas and Jun’s little ‘alone time’ ran longer than usual. Henry got off work before Ryu and twins had left for University. Thomas just barely managed to leave before Henry headed towards the house. It was a close call–they were getting sloppy.

If Henry had seen him… well, there would be more drama than one round could possibly handle. So it’s good he didn’t, because this is where we end. Heh.

——

Note from Mao: None of these pictures are ‘set up’. This is gameplay as it happens… or wants I am fulfilling at the behest of the silly, drama-lusting sims. That was definitely close… guh.

Anderson – Round 4: ‘The Easy Life’

Round 4

Financially, the Anderson family is the most well-off in all of Boreal Springs. Beneath the wealth lies Thomas‘ affair with Jun Yu and Janine‘s meanderings into the crime world. Can Alyssa grow up into a well-adjusted adult, or will she fall victim to her parent’s vices?

Thomas plays with Alyssa

While Thomas might not have been the doting husband, he sure found enough time to pay attention to Alyssa. While she looked like Janine, her personality seemed more tuned towards Thomas. He had hoped for a boy, to pass on his knowledge and money to, but Alyssa was close enough.

He spent plenty of time playing with her. He enjoyed her–she was quite cute–but he also wanted to ensure where her loyalty would lie. Thomas was making plans in his head and Alyssa had a part to play.

Janine and Henry chat

Meanwhile, Janine was doing her ‘wifely duties’ and keeping up friendships with the neighbors. At least, that’s what she told Thomas. In reality… she was often chatting with Henry Saunders. He was her warm blanket of comfort amongst the disarry that was her life… and the news that he was getting married nearly had her choking on a meatball.

“Are you sure, Henry? Isn’t that a bit sudden?” Janine managed, trying not to sound as anguished as she felt. “Do you love her–it isn’t just for the baby is it? I mean, you can’t do that–”

“Janine, calm down,” Henry laughed, completely missing the reasoning behind her anxiety. He was a bit thick that way. “You’re worse than the girls! I’m a grown man, I can make my own decisions.”

Janine sighed, “I’m sorry, it just surprised me. I mean… Jun Yu, of all people… Henry you–”

He shook his head, “I don’t want to hear it, Janine. How is Alyssa?”

The immediate change of subject was a sign that no matter what Janine said, Henry was going to marry Jun. She shook off the wave of nausea and tried her best to sound happy as she talked about Alyssa.

Alyssa thinks about Janine

“She’s a little girl now–very beautiful. I’m worried about her, though. Thomas spends a lot of time with her, and for that, I’m glad… but… her attitude. I just don’t know what to do.”

“What do you mean?”

Janine sighed, “I sent her to her room after I got a call from the school saying she called another little girl ‘poor white trash’!”

Henry grimaced, “That’s… not good. Is it Thomas, do you think?”

“He’s many things, but not that. We’ve all be doing well lately… maybe we’ve been spoiling her. Whatever it is, it’s going to stop.”

Thomas and Jun

“I saw the paper the other day–Thomas is doing… very well for himself.” Henry said with some hesitation. He was careful to guard his face so his distaste didn’t show. “Is he still out at all hours?”

Janine frowned, “yes… he’s always working.”

“And you, too? How is your work going?” Henry glanced at the rings on her fingers. “You are sure a lot more… decorated lately.”

Thomas and Jun

Janine hid her hands under the table. “I work nights, but I don’t have to worry about poor Alyssa being alone. Thomas always seems to be able to get home in time for me to leave work and put her to bed. I guess it gives them some time to spend together. It’s better than a nanny.”

Henry chuckled, “I think I’d prefer the nanny to him.”

“Henry!” Janine scolded, though the grin on her lips betrayed her. “Be nice. He’s a workaholic, but he’s not an awful man. There’s much worse in the world.”

“You’re right, I’m sorry, Janine.” Henry glanced at his watch and stood up. “I have to go–Ryu will be home in twenty minutes.”

“That’s all right, I need to go to work. Thanks for coming over.”

“Anytime.”

Janine goes to work

Janine pulled the black cap over her mess of curls and gently tucked them in as she sat in the car. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for what was to come. It was a rush, to be sure, but there was always danger… a stray gunshot, a brave guardsman… but the money.

“Let’s go.” She said to the driver–they were always different and always without names or seemingly even faces. It was for the best. “So many banks and so little time…”

——

Note from Mao: I realize this was a weird way to narrate an entry, but I love Henry and Janine and they are always over at one another’s houses (3 bolts, anyone?); them chatting like old married ladies was coming sooner or later!!

Anderson – Round 3: ‘Florence Fails’

Ander Family Round 3

The Anderson Family have unwittingly found themselves in the midst of the neighborhood ‘drama storm’. Janine is completely ignorant of this fact, too busy being pregnant, while Florence has a suspicion as to her father, Thomas‘, involvement.

Florence is troubled by Alyssa

Florence: I’m going crazy! My grades are tanking–I’m close to failing… me! FAILING!–and my parents are two pod people from planet oblivious. But wait, I guess I’m getting ahead of myself. Sorry, I’m just… ugh.

It all started with Alyssa. I hate to say it, but it’s true.

Janine goes into labor

Mom went into labor in the late evening… and of course, dad was nowhere to be found. Thankfully, being the responsible young woman that I am, I was able to get my mom to the hospital. She gave birth several hours later to a little girl–Alyssa. And that’s when all the trouble started… my trouble, at least.

Mom went back to work and dad acted like nothing had happened at all. I was stuck caring for her instead of having a nanny around… sigh. I’m a teenager! Does it look like I have time for babies? I have to study!

Thomas and Janine are indifferent

Of course, if my parents were total ‘pod people’, they’d get it. I have no idea what’s up with them. It’s been going on for a few years now and it just keeps getting worse. If they’re so unhappy, why don’t they get a divorce? I don’t even want to know how Alyssa came around… blegh.

I think dad is having some weirdo mid-life crisis and mom just doesn’t want to deal with it. She’s so secretive lately… and anytime you ask her about work, she gets this look in her eyes! Poor Alyssa, she’ll be all alone with only these pod people to ‘raise’ her.

Florence cares for Alyssa

She should be glad she has me around. As much as I want to get into University, I can’t ignore her crying. She’s just a baby, after all. Unfortunately, this the reasoning that got me an F and nearly ruined my chances at getting into Boreal Summit University…

But what was I supposed to do? Just leave her? Mom and dad were always at work.

Thomas has a phone call

I’m really certain dad is going through something. He gets weird phone calls and they’re always very ‘hush-hush’. If anyone walks into the room while he’s using the phone–for any reason–he gets livid! That, or he quickly hangs up and stalks off.

If mom is suspicious, she doesn’t show it. Ignorance is bliss. It’s so weird–I mean, what’s he doing? Shady business deals? My dad is a total workaholic freak. An affair really just doesn’t fit him at all. His only love is work.

Florence, Thomas, and Janine have a chat

We rarely, if ever, have ‘meals’ together. One morning, I managed to catch them both at the same time. I asked them to sit down. I was failing and my chances at going to B.S.U. were looking null and void. It was like talking to a brick wall, neither reacted. I could hear them chewing, it was just that silent.

Finally, mom spoke up. Her face was completely devoid of any emotion. She just stared down and said, “I’ll take care of it.”

I tried to ask her how, why, and what? But she ignored me. What does that even mean? Does it have to do with her job?

Alyssa becomes a toddler

Whatever she did do for a job, she wore normal enough outfits. She managed to come home early to see Alyssa’s second birthday. She’s really cute, I’ll admit it. She’s almost an exact copy of mom. That’s good, I guess, since I took a lot after dad…

After that, she was really active with Alyssa and I wasn’t stuck with her so much. I managed to pull my grades up, but I lost my scholarships. Even with all the work I had done, I still only had a D.

Thomas says 'hello' to Jun

Unfortunately, that’s when things went from bad to worse. Dad was all but absent from the house now. I heard him coming in really late at night, like around 1am! What kind of job keeps you out that late? I was beginning to think it wasn’t a job at all. Rumors had been going around and I’d tried to ignore them… but…

It just doesn’t make any sense. I guess I can’t really say anything until I see it with my own eyes. The rumor mill is usually full of crap.

Florence says goodbye to Alyssa

To be honest, I really didn’t have time to worry about it. I would be a high school graduate and my own life waited in front of me. I’d spent all my youth worrying about my weirdo parent’s problems. Let them do it for once.

Alyssa would miss me, I could tell. I told her ‘goodbye’ and she frowned and reached for me. She couldn’t talk much, so she just pulled on my hair. I’d miss her, too, but it’d be nice to be in a quiet place for once.

Florence leaves for University

Whatever mom did, it worked. I got my acceptance letter and before I knew it, I was off to University. I was a little late, though, so I’d be starting my first semester during the second. It was okay, I could get caught up.

While I appreciate what my mom did, she shouldn’t have had to. I’m a hardworking student and I had never, ever gotten a single mark below an A for my entire scholastic career. At least, not until now. I was going to prove my worth. I’d get a 4.0 or die trying. Look out, B.S.U…. here I come!

——-

Note from Mao: Poor Florence’s grades really did suck! It was because of Alyssa, too. Poor girl! I hated to see her not go, so I used her mother’s career as sort of a ‘loophole’. Bad, I know, but she’s a Knowledge sim! She can’t go without Uni.

Yu – Round 2: ‘Dishonorable Intentions’

Yu Family Round 2

Roger Yu and his wife, Risa, moved to Boreal Springs in an attempt to escape the problems their daughter, Jun Yu, had encountered. Tagging along is Roger’s newly immigrated brother, Sun-Tzu. So far, it doesn’t seem that the boondocks has calmed Jun any…

Jun Yu and Henry Saunders...

It had taken some time, but Jun Yu finally found some respite from the dull days of work and sleep. The answer to her boredom was none other than Henry Saunders. He’d been a hard one to reel in at first, but his resolve eventually crumbled. Men weren’t one to deny themselves for too long. Besides, that torch he held for the very married–and pregnant–Janine Anderson was beginning to dim.

Henry would turn out to be the answer to more than one of her problems…

Jun makes Henry an offer he can't refuse

Jun had found herself enjoying the various uniforms he was forced to wear while on duty. She told him not to change before their dates. Surprisingly, it took a little longer than Jun would have liked to make him the offer he couldn’t possibly refuse.

He was hesitant, but Jun knew exactly what to say. They were both consenting adults, what was the harm? Neither was attached. With logic like that, why was there cause for concern?

Henry regrets, Jun plots

Of course, quickly made decisions are often regretted. Jun seemed to be thinking the same thing as Henry, only with a different spin. Henry was concerned with what his friend, Janine would think. Jun was only plotting how she was going to get her claws into Thomas without Janine finding out.

Roger, Risa, and Sun-Tzu converse over cornflakes

Meanwhile, the elders of the house had an intense conversation over their cornflakes. While Jun may have thought her little indiscretions had gone unnoticed, she was very wrong. Roger and Risa had seen Henry Saunders leaving. They weren’t happy.

“What happens if she gets pregnant?” Risa sighed, shaking her head. “Who will pay for the doctor visits? Or the baby itself? Poor thing.”

“Risa, you’re getting ahead of yourself. Jun isn’t pregnant.”

“Yet, Roger… yet.”

“Her actions are without honor, Roger. You should have disciplined your daughter better.” Sun-Tzu offered. His English was getting leaps and bounds better with each passing day, though his old-country knowledge remained.

“If only it were so easy, brother.”

Eileen comforts Sun-Tzu

While his niece’s actions may have been dishonorable, Sun-Tzu’s were the exact opposite. He and Eileen got along famously, though neither would admit to being anything but ‘good friends’. Eileen often visited, sometimes to talk to Jun, but mostly to see Sun-Tzu.

“Jun is a burden on her family, Eileen.”

“She’s young, Sun-Tzu. I was like her once. She’ll grow out of it. She’s really not a bad person, I promise.”

“Let us hope what you say is true.”

Jun is caught flirting with Thomas

Unfortunately, Jun Yu was hardly Eileen. Jun Yu thought only of herself and what she wanted. Nothing else really mattered, especially not the sacred bond of marriage. Roger caught her speaking rather provocatively to Thomas Anderson, who swore he was just passing through.

Roger was unconvinced. He tried to follow them, but Jun led Thomas into her room and locked the door behind them.

Sun-Tzu rebuffs Thomas

Thomas eventually emerged to get something from the kitchen, only to encounter a less-than-pleased Sun-Tzu along the way. The elder regarded him with an accusatory stare.

“You dishonor your wife and child, Thomas Anderson.”

Thomas gave him a look, “things are different in this country. You’ll see that eventually.”

Sun-Tzu ignored him, turning his back and heading towards his own room.

Thomas and Jun have an affair

Thomas had no idea that Jun was also seeing Henry Saunders. If he had, that might have changed his reaction to Jun’s proposal later that evening. He wasn’t overly fond of the father of three, and surely wouldn’t be happy to know he was sharing anything with him.

Jun had her own reasonings for her relationship with Henry. She genuinely cared about Thomas, but he was married. Jun suspected her family was about to kick her out and Henry was divorced. Soon, his kids would be gone. He had plenty of room for Jun.

Anderson – Round 2: ‘Consequences’

Anderson Family at Round 2

Thomas Anderson is a workaholic, Janine Anderson is hopelessly passive-aggressive, and poor Florence Anderson just wants to go to University. They moved to Boreal Springs hoping to become a family again, but it doesn’t look like it’s working.

Thomas and Florence in passing

Things at the Anderson household continued as always; Thomas went to work, Florence went to school, and Janine tip-toed around in secrecy. It was a sad sight, to see a family act so distant, but for the Anderson’s it was a typical day.

Florence’s grades couldn’t be higher and she’d begun to set her sights on the nearby college–Boreal Summit University. The application process was grueling, however, and she still wasn’t old enough to attend. She spent every waking hour of her days outside of school preparing.

Florence is appalled

Unfortunately for poor Florence, her parents weren’t the most attentive of people. They weren’t dirty, per say, they were just busy. Very, very busy. All too often Florence came home to dirty dishes stacked up and fresh dog pee being sucked up by the carpeting. It interfered with her studies and caused her to lose valuable time.

She remained quiet, though. When she did see her parents, they hardly seemed in the mood to be admonished for their uncleanliness.

Janine has the flu

To make matters worse, Janine came home with the flu. She called in sick the next day and spent the majority of her time in bed. With her bed-ridden, Thomas’ stress level increased and he began pushing hard for another promotion. They needed all the money they could get to finish the house. It was a lofty project, but Thomas was determined.

Florence did what little she could to help. She made soup and brought her mother water. In time, it seemed to pass and Janine was well enough to leave the bed.

Thomas and Janine are romantic

During her recovery, Thomas took some time away from his promotion preparations to make sure she was feeling better. His behavior was curious, but Janine wasn’t about to question it. Were she to question him, he’d retreat back into his shell and it’d be a very long time, if it happened, that’d he approach her again.

Part of it could have been that his job required a lot out of him physically. This had caused him to drop the weight he had gained throughout their marriage. He was as trim as he had been when they had married. Perhaps that put a bit of spark in his step.

Janine and Florence chat

His attentions quickly went back to work and Janine was left seeking out Florence for companionship. Florence questioned her mother about her job. She never talked about it. Janine was touched that her daughter was curious, but played it off simply. She changed the subject to University and that grabbed Florence’s attention.

It was a close call. Janine couldn’t bear to tell her family what she’d gotten herself into. Or worse, how much she enjoyed it.

Janine washes Webster

Janine played her part well; she acted completely normal and never once broke out of her routine. To the outsider, she was just another married career woman. To those who knew her, she was unhappy and lonely. To those who had years to watch her, she was passive-aggressive to a fault. She had found an outlet for such aggressions.

Her job. It was exhilarating and freeing. It was dangerous and illegal. Yet she couldn’t wait to do it again. It was just her luck that the police force was so slack and she hadn’t yet been caught.

Thomas plays with Webster

Thomas was blissfully ignorant, of course. To notice would require him to pay attention. His mind was always on his job and the next big promotion. He took some time out to say a word to Florence or pat Webster on the head, but somehow, he always missed Janine. Even if she was standing right there, he’d go on like she wasn’t.

It only fueled her desire to go to work. If only he knew, he’d be acting different. Very different indeed.

Janine's work comes home

Unfortunately, one night, Janine’s work made a house call. A rival of ‘The Boss’–as he was known–came knocking at the Anderson family door. He wedged his way in and began to case the place. He would have gotten away with it if Florence hadn’t been awake. She was working on her homework when she heard the noise. She called the police.

While the experience didn’t scar her, it did give her a new hatred for criminals. She vowed to use her smarts to make a simulation to aid the police force in catching bad guys.

Janine passes out

Janine was sick with worry after that night. The Boss had assured her everything was fine and taken care of, but she couldn’t shake the anxiety. It certainly didn’t help that the flu bug she’d caught was still with her. Her energy was constantly low and she found herself passing out while doing daily activities.

Florence witnessed one such lapse and approached her in worry. She suggested seeing a doctor, but Janine waved her off, saying she was just tired.

Janine is pregnant

After a month of symptoms, Janine began to suspect it wasn’t the flu at all. She woke one night, overwhelmed with a terrible sickness. She rushed to the bathroom and after paying homage to the porcelain god, splashed water over her face and peeked into the medicine cabinet.

Several minutes later she got her answer. She crept back into the bedroom, careful not to wake Thomas. She had thrown it away, wrapped in paper, hoping no one would see. She would have to schedule a doctor’s appointment in the morning, but tests were more accurate these days and Janine knew beyond a shadow of a doubt it wasn’t wrong.

She was pregnant.

—–

Note from Mao: Janine getting pregnant wasn’t planned, but they’ve both had the ‘Have a Baby’ want locked since early Round One. It doesn’t bode well for Janine’s career, that’s for sure.

Anderson – Round 1: ‘A Fresh Start’

Anderson Family at Round 1

The Anderson’s moved to Boreal Springs to try and rekindle their familial bond. Unfortunately, Thomas just found himself enthralled in a new career while Florence works feverishly on her studies in an attempt to attend a University and Janine is left with her books and her wits.

Family time

Janine: Hello there, I’m Janine Anderson. The one in the ‘sweats’, if you will. Sad to say, it’s my only solace these days. Even a woman of knowledge can grow tired of her books. At least all this action has my body in tip top form, and my health isn’t anything to laugh at, either. I can run circles around most women my age.

My husband, as per usual, is much too busy with his careers and interests to notice. Which is quite sad, I must say. I grew up being told how exotic and lovely I was, only to marry a man of indifference. At least my daughter and I have something in common–she seeks knowledge just as much as I do.

Florence catches butterflies

Florence is an impressive young woman, though I do worry about her. I caught her chasing butterflies. This would be normal, but Florence was catching them so she could observe their behavioral patterns. I’m afraid her dysfunctional parents have caused some wiring in her brain to be a little… off.

Still, I love her and she is my daughter. I just wish she weren’t so serious all the time.

Florence helps Janine cook

She is quite helpful, though. When we lived in our old house, we had Thomas’ mother cooking for us. She was good at it, being a Celebrity Chef. Unfortunately, she couldn’t make the move with us and now I’m stuck cooking. I’m not very good at it–it wasn’t a skill I ever thought to focus on.

Thankfully, Florence is there to help. She reads from the cookbook while I stumble around the modest offerings of our small kitchen. I feel we’re both getting an education this way.

Risa and Roger visit

We had a visit from the neighbors not long after we moved in. A nice family from down the street, the ‘Yu’ family, I believe. Unfortunately, I think they got into it in our bathroom. They left shortly after, with Risa looking quite disgruntled. What can you fight about in a bathroom? Perhaps it’s best if I don’t know the answer to that…

Janine does a crossword

As you’ve likely noticed, my husband isn’t around much. Truth be told, I spend the majority of the day by myself. It took me awhile to find a job, as there were no nearby offerings at any law firms. What good is a lawyer if no one needs swindled–err helped?

At least I have crosswords. Do you happen to know what, ‘procreation method favored by consenting adults–six letters’, is? What? Don’t look at me like you expect me to know. I told you, Thomas isn’t around much.

Florence finds a friend

Florence, to my great surprise, brought a friend home from school with her one day. It was a boy. She was quite defensive, stating that it was just so she could work on her ‘Dance’ scholarship. I can’t say I was completely convinced. I doubt she’s actually interested, but I’m sure there’s some kind of experiment hidden in her motives. The poor boy…

Thomas gets promoted, Janine gets a dog

Thomas was excelling at work, as he always does, and saw fit to bring me home a present. It was a sweet dog whom I named Webster. Of course, it was merely a way for my husband to make up for being missing since we’ve moved here, but at least now I have someone to keep me company. Thomas is already going full-throttle in an attempt to get his next big promotion. He always says that he’ll take a break after the next, but then it becomes the next, and it keeps going. It never ends. I’ve stopped nagging and just accepted the way of things.

Janine goes to work

I did finally find myself employment–as a security guard. Quite a leap from where I once was, but it gave me something to do. Unfortunately, it was a night job and quite dangerous, too. My second night there, I was confronted with a dire situation. I spotted someone on the security camera holding a computer and looking quite suspicious. I phoned it in and managed to help the police catch some infamous bandit of sorts.

While it should have been an excellent opportunity for a promotion, it didn’t happen. Instead, afterwards, I was accosted by a man in a limo who made me an offer I couldn’t refuse… in more ways than one.

Thomas makes the rare appearance

Oddly enough, my getting a job seemed to make Thomas remember I existed past ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’. While the attention is nice, I’m sure he’s up to something. There’s always a hidden motive behind his ‘niceties’. He can’t be having an affair, we haven’t been here long enough for that. It’s surely something to do with his job. He probably needs me to turn on my charm and win over his new boss.

I really hate doing that. Especially when they leer at me. It’s incredibly discomforting.

Florence is horrifed

Florence: Ew, mother! That’s disgusting. Did you have to share that? I’m right here, you know.

Janine: Oh, don’t be such a baby. What’s disgusting about it? You weren’t dropped off by a stork.

Florence: I’m going to be ill.

Janine: You’re so dramatic, Florence. Honestly. It’s a fact of life!

Florence: Ugh… I’m going to study somewhere else.

Janine: Suit yourself! (ahem) I suppose that takes care of things for now. I really don’t have anything left to say. Besides, I need this mechanical point if I’m going to please the boss–err… get my next promotion.

Note from Mao: I’m trying to keep up with my playing so I don’t have to go with my crazy-insane scribbles I call ‘notes’. Thus, you may notice some frequent updates in the beginning.
